Not many things last a century. Congratulations to the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, which is celebrating centennial anniversary years from 2013 to 2015 for its preserves.
A Speak Out comment stated that President Obama bypasses Congress to get things done. People should realize that for the past five years Congress has been voting no. Nothing would get done if Obama didn’t bypass Congress. Congress does not pass bills to help the public. All they will do is vote no.
The Metra board is paying outgoing chief executive officer Alex Clifford a $750,000 severance package. That is ridiculous. However, it could be a nice Link card. Maybe the Link card police can check into that.

Someone who does not want to take care of their family is one of the lowest forms of creature that walk the Earth.

A quote from a recent newspaper article stated that former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. needs treatment. Yes, he does. His dad, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, should have punished him good. Now it’s too late. Jesse Jackson Jr. is just a spoiled crybaby.
Don from Palos Hills
I can’t believe that Chicago and its surrounding areas are completely out of control. The body count every weekend seems worse than Iraq and Afghanistan, and it’s only getting worse. Gone are the days and nights when honest people could use their parks and public playgrounds. Gone are the days when people had respect for each other. The United States has become filled with violence and everyday mayhem. All of our cities are like war zones. Bring back the death penalty before it’s too late.
President Obama has been so busy campaigning, partying and vacationing with all of his friends that he hasn’t had time to address the problem of a costly and crudely implemented Obamacare and the real problems like our economy, the deplorable jobs situation, the ever-escalating price of gasoline and a costly national debt, which will inevitability totally bankrupt the United States.
Can anyone tell me what ever became of the General Services Administration employees who partied on our money in Las Vegas?I don’t recall seeing any disciplinary action taken with these individuals.
Ken from Tinley Park
The attorneys in the George Zimmerman trial could not mention Trayvon Martin’s alleged drug use, suspension from school and past incidents of fighting during the opening statements of the trial. But they want to say that Martin was such a sweet child. This is just ridiculous.
Has Don from Chicago been living under a rock for the past five years? People are lucky to have the minimum wage job they do. Does he think people would stay at a such a job that pays for only the basics if they could find a higher-paying job? The way it used to be doesn’t exist anymore. Most high-paying jobs have been moved out of America. Most of the jobs in this country no longer make anything, so businesses no longer think they have to actually pay someone a living wage.
What is with the full-page Apple ads that have been out in papers and magazines for a few weeks touting being designed by Apple in California? I would be more impressed if all of the actual products were built in the United States not just designed here.
When bad things happen to good people, it is just part of God’s plan. When good happens, it is hailed as proof of the power of prayer. When individuals commit evil deeds, it is because God gave us free will. Perhaps there is a more rational explanation.
Why does it seem like the politicians who are so gung ho over the south suburban airport often have to bus in supporters for their photo opportunities while the local residents against the airport only need to walk out their front doors?
For all of you who think that Richard Daley, the former mayor of Chicago, was a good mayor, all you have to do is remember the debacle of a contract he promoted and signed with the pirates of the parking fee company. He spent all the money paid to the city for the contract and then cruised into retirement, leaving the citizens and travelers to Chicago holding the bag.
Tom from Evergreen Park
It’s amazing when you step outside your comfort zone and look at things from a different perspective.
The problem with the leadership in the United States is not that they are leading from behind; it’s that we have many behinds leading us.
Bob from Hickory Hills
Chicago Blackhawk Marian Hossa with a slipped disc, Andrew Shaw with a cracked rib, Jonathan Toews with a possible concussion, Bryan Bickell with a badly sprained knee, etc. These tough guys still played their sport of hockey and won the Stanley Cup. Then we have Chicago Bull Derrick Rose, who had an operation more than a year ago and still won’t play basketball. What a wuss! I doubt the Bulls will ever get their money’s worth. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks show what true men they are. Rose is a spoiled little boy. Want to see great sports? Follow the Blackhawks.
