It was sad to hear of the death of actor Cory Monteith from the TV show “Glee.” Whatever the cause of death may be, it’s a shame that someone so young has passed on.
While we are looking at celebrity chef Paula Deen and her use of the N-word, let’s take a stand on rap singers. Why can’t we ban them also? They are a disgrace when they use words against women and make racial remarks.

Celebrating the July 4 holiday was another bloody event for Chicagoans. People can’t enjoy themselves at parks anymore because punks are shooting. The laws need to be changed. These punks need to be tried as adults.
I have two children (adults) that can’t find a job. One has been at his high school job for almost 10 years and can’t find anything else. The other is a recent medical school graduate and can’t get a residency even though they graduated with high honors because they went to a foreign med school. Our residency programs will take foreign people who reap the benefits of training here and go back to their country. Let’s wake up and hire U.S. citizens. Give our young people a job different than they have done so they can make a decent living.
I was floored when I read Phil Kadner’s column on the Shell gasoline issues at a couple of stations. The owners/operators of those stations just opened Pandora’s box. Shell raises their gasoline prices with no reason. Worse yet, Shell slams their doors on communications with the people who sell their products. Bravo to these owners/operators for telling it like it is. There are no explanations and likely no end in sight. Readers, please join me. No more Shell gas for my car, not even my lawn mower. I am through with Shell. Could this be the tip of the iceberg?

Gov. Pat Quinn is the man. After decades of looking the other way, playing delaying tactics and ignoring Quinn’s pleas for legislators to actually do their jobs, again, nothing was accomplished in the legislative session about pension reform. In a real gutsy maneuver Quinn stopped their paychecks. I totally respect Quinn for that action. If they don’t show up for work, lock the doors. It’s all about trying to make Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Bill Daley, former White House chief of staff for President Obama, look good while Quinn is the only one attempting to solve the problem.

To Bob from Mount Greenwood: Who exactly has oversight on how much you spend on the lottery? Look in the mirror. It’s self-control.

Being bipolar does not give a person a license to steal. The judge should give former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. the maximum jail sentence. Anyone can get a doctor to vouch for them especially if they have money. This is ridiculous. Throw the book at him and make him an example.
To the mom of the radiologist technologist graduate: Simply put, I think there aren’t radiology jobs anymore. That field is completely flooded by schools turning out techs at a rapid rate. It has nothing to do with who you know. It has to do with clinics and hospitals cutting hours and cutting personnel. Radiology techs are a dime a dozen now. She should have researched her field better before choosing it. Best of luck to you.
Here is what I like to see: a corvette with a handicapped parking tag around the mirror parked in a handicapped parking spot. Really? They must really have some pull with a phony doctor somehow.
It is sad that Trayvon Martin was killed, but stop the protests unless you are going to protest every single person that has been murdered on the streets of Chicago. Don’t single out one person because it’s on the news all the time. Take time to get mad about all the innocents being killed every day. Protest that. Maybe then more won’t be killed.
Like most homeowners, I cringed at my tax bill and would like to know where to look to compare tax rates in neighboring communities. I was shocked to see how much of the property tax bill is going to our park district. Also, has anyone sighted any mosquito abatement? I think they must be working undercover.
Regarding why we elect who we do: A Forum writer wondered why we the people keep electing the officials we do. It’s probably because everyone thinks their state representative or senator, congressman or senator, alderman, councilman, mayor, etc., is a good guy or gal and it’s the others who are incompetent, corrupt and out just for themselves and their rich backers.
Since no one in government seems to remember, do you think the National Security Agency has records of phone calls and emails from the night of the deadly attack in Benghazi, Libya?
Can you imagine an open carry or gun-conceal person combined with road rage?

To auto racing driver Danica Patrick: Please stand up for women and don’t pose nude. Posing nude doesn’t give you power. Having the strength to say no to the pressure gives you power and respect. You’re beautiful, Danica. Leave something to the imagination. That’s much more sexy.
In response to saying some grocery stores would close if not for the Link card, does that mean you can still abuse the system?
