To Grace from Mount Greenwood: You will be remembered in my prayers. God be with you during your health struggle!

When did saying, “Thanks,” go out of style? After sending a graduation card, mailing a Stanley Cup T-shirt to a former Chicagoan, making a memorial donation and bringing an envelope to a wedding, not a note, text, call or email was received. It’s time to join a childless friend whose nieces and nephews called to say they didn’t get their Christmas cards. She said, “I didn’t send them. Don’t expect anything for birthdays either. Not one of you can bother to thank me.” She said they’d be sorry when she died and they learn they’re no longer in her will.
Take off your shoes and socks and see how far you get walking on 140-degree asphalt when it’s 97-degree weather. Think before you do this to your best friend. Dogs can’t say, “Ow, ow, ow!”
Regarding the MTV show “Catfish”: Don’t be too naive. I once met a 25-year-old single girl on the Internet. We began talking a lot and I wanted to meet her. She refused and later admitted it was because she was 42 years old and married.

Since the Defense of Marriage Act and Proposition 8 have been ruled unconstitutional, I’m still waiting for this destruction of “traditional marriage.” I think it’s just another hoax just like the “end times” for 2012. When are these religious zealots going to fold when they realize they don’t have any cards left? It seems they don’t like it when the government doesn’t play by their rules. We’ll be moving forward now. Thank you for playing.
I just want to send my congratulations to our newest princess. Yes, I said, “Princess.” I am referring to Princess Deborah Mell, who will replaced her father, Dick Mell, after he retires as 33rd Ward alderman. Apparently, the people no longer have a voice in who represents them. The positions are just handed down from family member to family member.
Here is a message from the oldest teenaged car nut. I’m 77 years old. In my day, we street raced because we didn’t have drag strips. A new TV show promotes street racing. What a dumb thing to promote! Usually innocent bystanders are killed. Go to the track.

As to Sandi’s response to my question about a Corvette parked with a handicapped parking tag, she confirmed what I said. She and almost anyone can con a doctor into getting a handicapped parking tag so they can be close to the door. I suppose she is also one of those people out there that think because they put their turn signal on it is OK to cut someone off. The Corvette in the handicapped parking area is classic me-ism.
With this bad knowledge on corrupt politicians, former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, should have been kept in the loop about getting caught. They travel in the same circle or somewhat thereof. Basically, they should have read the memo. Just like any other person they, too, should pay the price of serving time together, but at separate facilities.

You have to love it. President Obama is taking $7 billion so Africans can have electricity for televisions, computers and such. In India 23 kids just died because of poisoned food from a school lunch program. Many more die every day simply of starvation. They are so poor that there is no clean water in many places or even buildings. I’d rather my money help build schools, buy food and build plumbing than bring video games to possibly ruin a culture.
The United States is trying to make children’s education a No. 1 priority, but Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel seems like he would rather cut thousands of teachers, cut schools down and stack children together in overcrowded classrooms. How do they think the United States can progress in education when Emanuel is cutting? This doesn’t make any sense. Emanuel could have done anything but cut education.
Hey, the royal baby is cute but so are my grandkids. To me, they are real. I and almost every other American has almost no chance of ever seeing Prince William and Kate Middleton’s baby in person, let alone meeting him. And then there are the writers knocking all the attention. Which of those groups needs to work the hardest to actually get a life? I guess, for writing, I could be put into that group but I am retired and have several productive hobbies including four grandkids I see regularly.

George Zimmerman had no right to stop, detain, question or bother Trayvon Martin in any way. Zimmerman had no authority to do so. Trayvon Martin had his liberty taken because he was a member of a minority group in the United States. Remember when your liberties are taken because America practices on the minorities first. Then, you’re next.

To Chicago Bull Derrick Rose: I hear you said that you are now 100 percent going into next season. In my book you are still a wimp. With all the money you have, you got your big money contract and unfortunately got hurt, and you will never be the same. On the court mentally, I think the Bulls should move on from you and start over. I don’t think we will win a championship with you. Enjoy your life as another rich, spoiled athlete.
