I love the summertime. It’s the season of garage sales, and our weather is going to be in the 70s. Garage sales, here I come. Yay!

The president of the United States is a very powerful office. When the president speaks, it often makes history. What he chooses to comment on must be very important, to say the least. If what he says is historic, then what he doesn’t say or ignores must be trifle.

Maybe I’m some sort of genius, but I’ve never found it difficult to manage my I-PASS. Yes, the web site is clunky, but it is also quite simple. People who have trouble managing the I-PASS probably have trouble managing their credit or debit cards and money in general.

Chicago

Our state of Illinois is having money problems and Gov. Pat Quinn thinks it’s a good idea to sign a bill for a new airport? What is wrong with him?

Sharon from Orland Park

Maybe if some people would take advantage of a free high school education, then maybe I wouldn’t have to pay for their free housing, free food stamps and free welfare checks.

Rick from Evergreen Park

Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich has children yet he is in prison. Former Gov. George Ryan’s poor wife, Lura Lynn, died while he was in prison. There are other prisoners who can be very sick or have other hardships yet you have the former U.S. Re. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, getting treated with special consideration like there was nothing done. I think this is very unfair and unwelcome conduct in our court system. What you do for one person you should do to all.

What about the man who shot four women in their heads early in the morning in a clothing store at Brookside Marketplace in Tinley Park? Their mothers lost their daughters, their husbands lost their wives and their children lost their mothers. No one rallied over that. This was much worse than Trayvon Martin because this case was outright murder and not self-defense.

How can a woman not be of low morals if she doesn’t know who her child’s dad is? If you’re having sex with more than one guy and not using birth control, that makes you easy. I have no sympathy for these women.

It seems to me that George Zimmerman had no respect for authority. He was told he didn’t have to follow Trayvon Martin, but he did it anyway and wound up killing the child. You might say Trayvon Martin had no respect for authority, but George Zimmerman had no respect for authority either.

I think red-light cameras are all about the money. I got a ticket by mail, and it shows I didn’t reach the intersection.

I wonder if Chicago Ald. Dick Mell got up on his desk and danced the jig again after his daughter Deb Mell was given the city council seat he held. I had higher hopes for Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel especially with Mell’s name being brought up in the waste dumping scandal. Some things don’t change. Obviously she was the most competent candidate for the office. Right!

Ken from Crete

Let me get this right. Because I have rheumatoid arthritis in my ankles, I cannot drive my Corvette and use my handicapped parking placard. It may be difficult getting in and out because the car is low to the ground, but I can still drive. What if I had a cardiac or lung condition? Does a person need to be missing a limb or be in a wheelchair to have a placard? Sometimes I’m in a great deal of pain and use my placard because I can’t walk a long distance. Let someone question me. I’ll give them an earful.

Oak Lawn

To the Rev. Reginald Williams Jr.: You should be ashamed of yourself for posting that message on the electronic sign at First Baptist Church of University Park to draw attention to the Trayvon Martin case. Grow up! It is a double standard world we live in.

After reading Phil Kadner’s column about Shell and how little regard they have for their customers and owner/operators, I have cut up my Shell credit card and will no longer be buying my gasoline at Shell.

What a joke! Safe passage in Chicago school zones? Some of the parents are the gangbangers, so what’s the problem?

President Obama has insulted my intelligence with his move to engage movie actors and entertainers to convince the public that Obamacare is good for them. What an insult to the American public! He’ll never learn.

Don’t forget about all the freebies your towns offer when it comes to enjoying summer. There are free movie nights, free concerts and free festivals throughout the season. What can be better than having a good time with friends, family, neighbors or even on your own? Since many of these events are annual, we may take them for granted but lots of volunteers work hard to provide these programs for us. So take advantage of them.

I think celebrity chef Paula Deen is being persecuted for saying the N-word. A lot of blacks call each other the N-word. U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush and Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis have made comments about whites. Where is the outrage over these comments? I guess some people have thicker skin.
