When they started bulldozing Lincoln Mall back then, they should’ve just continued. They could’ve built a strip mall. Matteson could have been booming now.

Congress should be on Obamacare and Congress’ washrooms should also be transgender, as these laws are being developed in California. California seems to influence all of us. What’s good for the citizens is good for our representative lawmakers.
Rapper 50 Cent entered a not-guilty plea in a domestic violence case. It seems like not only are some of these rappers rapping about violence toward women, but they practice what they preach.
Joe Messina’s sentence for ruining a person’s life forever: 30 months’ probation. In May the sentence for James Malecek, whose one punch killed Kevin Kennelly, of Chicago’s Beverly community, received 145 days in jail. The judges gave these two immature thugs a get-out-jail-free card. The message these verdicts send other thugs is: If it’s your first offense you can get away with murder as long as you say it wasn’t premeditated. A much better sentence for young Messina would have been to be Eric Bartels’ caregiver for life. Maybe this would teach Messina something. This sentence will teach him nothing.
Give the Democrats a break. It’s the perfect time for Hillary Clinton, former U.S. Secretary of State, to run for president. The Democrats are coming off of a historic presidency run with the first black man to be elected president, and they bet they can do it again with the first woman president. They claim to be for the little guy yet it seems like they have some of the biggest political machines running their party. So they’ll run Mrs. Clinton as an underdog in the public with the full power of the liberal machine behind her.
Oprah Winfrey said she experienced racism in Switzerland. Doesn’t she know that people in these countries do not know who Queen Oprah is? She has been off mainstream TV networks for over two years. Soon people in the United States will not know who she is.

It’s an absolute joke that former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson asked for community service rather than prison time. Lying and cheating the Internal Revenue Service, and you expect to get community service? Give me a break! This woman deserves prison. She knew better and, on top of that, she was an elected official who purposely cheated the IRS.

Palos Heights refuses to allow video gambling, which would bring revenue to the town. All I have to look forward to is higher water bills and higher property taxes. We can’t be in the year 2013 and allow video gambling?

According to the Center for Economic and Policy Research, if minimum wage had kept up with inflation since its peak in 1968, the federal minimum wage would now be $10.75 per hour. And if the minimum wage had grown along with workers’ productivity, it would be as high as $17.19 now. It’s great to have low-wage jobs for young people and students, but minimum wage jobs are now needed by adults with families to support. College graduates are not finding jobs and are mostly saddled with high debt.
Term limits are unlikely. As the Term Limit Commission wraps it up, it looks as if the only way the majority of Tinley Park voters who endorsed term limits will get them is by going to the polls. Unless residents make the effort to pay attention, this once quaint little village — which is becoming a town of haves and have-nots — will continue to have elected and appointed officials with the undeniable advantage of incumbency and who continue to reign. Perhaps the next referendum should request a restructuring with wards, where all residents would be more equally represented.
Who do they think they are kidding with these speed cameras? Chicago is getting so greedy for money that they are finding more ways to take it from the people. Every time you turn around they have their hands in our pockets. Mr. Bully aka Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel just keeps hitting the taxpayers. I’d like to know where you are getting the money to put in these speed cameras. You people are sick. I think we need to put cameras in Springfield and Chicago City Hall to show the money being wasted there.
In response to the person criticizing my comment about people who went to Lollapalooza: No, I’ve seen some big bands in my life, many bigger than the ones that played at Lollapalooza. The Cure? The main band? Overrated!
About former Chicago Ald. Dick Mel’s replacement: It is not a wonder that Mel’s daughter Deb is now in his spot. I think corruption in Chicago is non-extinguishable. Let’s keep watching the dummies continue to pay their outrageous property taxes.
A commenter asked what morals James St. James will be teaching in his Millikin University classroom. Professor St. James is not teaching morality; he is teaching psychology and apparently has been doing so well for quite some time. He paid his debt, turned his life around and became a productive member of society. Did he do something horrible? Yes, however he doesn’t need to be punished, especially by people who have only newspaper knowledge of his life, for his actions. And as far as bringing God into the equation, as the saying goes: Judge not lest ye be judged.
