Look out for skyrocketing gasoline prices. Aug. 20, a Burbank station had $3.61 a gallon. On Aug. 21, it was $3.79 a gallon. Did we have a catastrophe or is a holiday weekend coming? Whatever!
The murder rate in Chicago has actually gone down. I guess the media coverage has become more outrageous in this respect because it doesn’t seem like murders have gone down.
What happened to the ad-free cable we were promised when cable came out? It was a privilege to pay a small monthly charge because cable was advertisement-free. That didn’t last long. Television, with its aerial, worked like a radio. Just turn a knob. Now, greedy cable — with its captive audience and all its boxes, high defintion, digital, etc. — has oodles of ads plus a high monthly charge to boot. To make matters worse, ads in the computer world are a huge nuisance, too. We’re forced to watch even when they don’t apply to us. Bring back the good ol’ days.

U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski is one of the few people in the U.S. Congress who looks at the immigration issue properly. I completely support his ideas and recommendations regarding immigration. People should not be rewarded for being in America illegally. There should be an orderly method for people to come into this country and get their citizenship. Lipinski’s ideas should be the basis for any laws that are passed. The ideas presently put forward are to make the immigrants happy and mess with the people who are here legally.

About shootings: Why aren’t the parents responsible for what their kids are doing? All we ever hear is we need to put more money into these poorer neighborhoods. How much is enough? I’m trying hard to support my own, let alone everyone else’s. Back in the day, you respected teachers, neighbors, parents and their property and lived within your means. I’m not even talking that far back.
In response to the Chicago White Sox fan from Worth regarding the Sox and its World Series win: At least the Chicago Cubs never threw a World Series.

The Billy Preston song “Nothing from Nothing” with lyrics that repeated that “nothin’ from nothin’ leaves nothin’ ” inspires me to remind those who believe in evolution that they must first accept the fact that even a gas or some form of matter had to come from somewhere in order for it to change into something else. To claim that something always existed to bring these processes about is simply unprovable. Is there any proof that the universe wasn’t designed by a divine creator?
I think all of the people defending President Obama for going on vacations are the same people who were chastising President Bush for going on too many vacations. And these are the same people who will be criticizing the next president for his vacations, depending on what political party he’s in. Every president is on call every minute of the day. He’s not really on vacation at an amusement park never to be disturbed. I don’t know where this vacation criticism started, but it’s really too much nowadays. Give it a rest. You go on vacation.
If you plan on committing a crime then make sure you have children. You can use your children to receive a lighter sentence even if you are guilty as sin. Children may not be a “get out of jail free” card, but in the right hands they are a “get out of jail sooner” card.
To the commenter who says reckless drivers kill: You’re right, but usually the reckless drivers are the speeders. I drive the speed limit as posted on the road that I am driving on. I stay in the right lane. So far I have been accident-free. Also, I have not had a ticket in over 45 years. I hope this trait stays with me the rest of my life.
I wish President Obama would just sit in the White House alone and try not to “help” us so much. Every time he tries “helping” it ends up costing us a lot of money. He has tried helping the poor, middle class, Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, women, children, Tom, Dick and Harry. And it has all cost us much more than we can pay.
After everything that has happened to former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. recently, do the Democrats in the 2nd Congressional District feel sillyvoting for Jackson rather than former U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson? I guess an honest person can’t win in the backwards 2nd Congressional District. I guess only crooks and cronies can represent there.
It’s nice to have a cost-of-living raise year after year. I’m a retired union painter after 34 years. We don’t have that luxury in our pension. I’m still retired and living the good life. So quit crying about the cost of living. It’s just another thing to cry about. I have better things to do with my time. Life is good.

I think one thing we can be sure of is if immigration reform goes through, the taxpayers will be the losers.
To Bonnie from Flossmoor who defended Millikin University professor James St. James for murdering his family by saying he paid his debt. This is what you believe? Yeah, he paid his debt. He was so proud he changed his name from Wolcott to St. James to hide his guilty conscience. As to not teaching morals to young teenagers, all teachers should be role models. How can he continue to live with what he did? This is a classic example of the inmates running the asylum. Judge not lest ye be judged, indeed. Murderers shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
