The Girlfriends are coming back. I can turn on WGN-AM (720) again. Welcome back Kathy O’Malley and Judy Markey. All we need is John Williams now.

Homer Glen

Watch out for those red-light cameras. I stopped and made a right on red at an intersection. I fought the red-light ticket, but the hearing officer said she did not recognize my legal defense. After failing to pay a fine or penalty for five automated offenses, our licenses get suspended. I think it’s all about money not safety.

Our men and women in uniform in fighting areas deserve a lot more money than they are receiving from the government because they are working 24 hours per day, as opposed to some policemen who are only working eight hours per day.

Mike P. from Chicago

It’s outlandish. Can someone explain to me just what it is that qualifies professional baseball players to receive contracts in the hundreds of millions of dollars? Is hitting or throwing or catching a ball that important to mankind that those “skills” require compensation of such outlandish proportions? The players’ abilities must benefit us all somehow to justify such wealth, no? Someone please explain what it is that they possess, that they contribute and that has such great value.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry proposed a private-sector initiative for the West Bank and Gaza Strip of $4 billion. It’s amazing the untold billions given away, but the best America can do for its people dealing with rebuilding in Oklahoma or any other natural disaster are low-interest loans. That amount of money could rebuild the Oklahoma devastation twice over, as the estimate is $2 billion. When will this country start taking care of the hardworking people that lost everything? When are we going to stop being the unwanted watchdog of the world? When the middle class is gone?

The Defense of Marriage Act is dead, the morning-after pill is legal to little girls, student loans are doubled, and gasoline is still more than doubled from what it was yet President Obama and friends took a vacation to Africa that cost $60 million to $100 million. Do you have any regrets on your vote?

Jack from Oak Lawn

A commenter wants to know why someone stuffing fries into a bag should make $15 per hour. I don’t know how much they should make, but I do know that someone working 40 hours a week should not live in poverty and have to collect food stamps. Yes, raising the minimum wage will take so many people out of poverty and will reduce food stamp usage. You are wrong if you think companies will stop hiring because the minimum wage is higher. I think if they have customers, they are hiring. Demand creates jobs.

To civil union and gay marriage crybabies and Cheryl from Orland Park: I, too, once lived with a girlfriend and was out of work for an extended period to which I got health coverage under her employer’s health plan. It was also taxed as income. We are no different. What appears to be an inequality is not. The more you whine about this, the more “special” you get perceived. Illinois may one day allow for gay marriage, but politicians will hold off on voting because they don’t want their political careers jeopardized. In other words, they don’t care about you.

Todd from Orland Park

To the commenter asking Chicago Cubs fans why they continue to flock to Wrigley Field to watch such a lousy team: I bleed Cubbie blue and the answer is the same reason the Chicago White Sox fans flock to U.S. Cellular Field aka the Cell to watch such a lousy team. You figure out the reason for that and you are all set. Have a great day.

I truly wonder sometimes about the religious right in America. They want to take credit for standing up for God’s law and denying others to live in peace in a country that promises equality to every citizen. But when families let their children die because they decided to neglect modern science and pray for a cure instead, they don’t want to talk about that. Really? When you are free of sin, then you can talk to others about their sins. Until then, keep putting your foot in your mouths. Don’t distract us from the real problem, and that is you.

Channahon

So how big will former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. win his next election after his 15-month vacation from politics? Remember that 15 is half of the 30 months that he was sentenced to prison. Think about it. I think he will win with 60 percent of the vote at least.

Pity the poor Will County workers? They are complaining that they have not received a raise for four years and have to pay 1 percent of their annual salary for individual medical insurance and 2 percent for family medical coverage. Should I feel sorry for those greedy overpaid workers? My pension is nowhere near what they get, and I received only one cost-of-living increase in 15 years. I pay 16 percent for my Medicare coverage and secondary medical. I am satisfied with what I have. I am complaining about the taxpayers having to fund the greedy overpaid public workers.

Lansing

While fathers have certainly killed their own kids, we seem to have had an increase in boyfriends abusing and killing kids. Why would any woman bring a strange man into her kids’ life and move him into her home? What kind of mother puts her sex life before the safety of her kids? This just is more proof of the moral decay of the United States.
