Despite laws to curb distracted driving, a number of people continue to use their cell phones while behind the wheel. | File photo

Do you know how many adults I’ve noticed daily on their cell phones not paying attention and almost causing an accident? Don’t blame it all on teens. Some teens are better drivers than some adults.
Chicago has a great street grid system, but sometimes it is difficult to figure out rush hour radio traffic reports. Changing a major street name might cause public transportation confusion. Please stay the course with traditional blocks and location designations.
I read the article about the Illinois Capitol rehab project that costs millions. I would like to do the job for them. I would be happy to use an office supply store to find similar furniture for less than $400 per desk. I would use a hardware supply store to find similar-looking fixtures to chandeliers for less than $300 per fixture. And I can find copper facade for less and get the same look. Then you could have kept the dental benefits for indigent people on Medicaid that you cut out because you claimed Illinois was so poor.

I think the union workers picketing in front of Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn should be arrested. They hold up signs denouncing corporate greed when, in reality, they’re all about union greed. They disrupt the funerals and wakes of those individuals attempting to say goodbye to their loved ones. They are a disgrace.
I would like to thank all of the students, the parents and the teachers from Brother Rice High School who worked so hard having their band fundraiser car wash. It’s nice to see the community working so hard for their school.
The definition of American exceptionalism is being able to commit a mass shooting because Republicans and the National Rifle Association want you to have that capability.

What sense does it make to build a new school when all of these other schools have no air conditioning or fans or anything? Don’t you think they should take that money and invest it into the schools that are open now and make it comfortable for the children?
What happens to a candidate’s campaign funds that he has raised to that point when the candidate decides to drop out of the race, such as what happened with Bill Daley and running for Illinois governor? Does he return those campaign contributions to the donor?
I am still waiting for my income tax return. They keep saying that they are checking my return. Must it take six months to check my return?
I would like to know why equal-rights and affirmative-action hiring would allow a 100-pound woman on the fire department. This would jeopardize the lives and safety of all our citizens.
The United States and the world may be getting suckered by al-Qaida. The poison gas murders have happened, but what motive would Bashar al-Assad’s Syrian government have had to gas civilians? Why would they? It doesn’t make any sense. President Assad says his government had nothing to do with it. His opposition, on the other hand, is at least partly al-Qaida. Could they have gotten hold of some poison gas, used it and blamed Assad? The outraged United States and the world, on what I think is bad advice, are supposed to plunge into Syria’s civil war on al-Qaida’s side?
Forget those snoots at Brookside Glen in Tinley Park who are complaining about any development of land at 191st Street and Harlem Avenue. Give us a break. We want a Wal-Mart here in Tinley Park. For those of you who have your $300,000 to $500,000 homes and don’t want traffic, I say, “Too bad.” Bring us the Wal-Mart, and soon.
To the person from Chicago wishing restaurants would bring the credit card machine to the table as they do in Canada: Restaurants cannot do that until the U.S. banking system upgrades to the rest of the world’s banking systems and issues pin and chip credit cards. Personally, I’m not happy with trying to use the antiquated U.S. cards overseas and wish our banking system would get with the times.
As Americans, we really need to get over our issues with race. After all, skin color is only skin deep. As sapient beings we need to realize that everyone on the planet, all 7 billion of us, have our ultimate heritage in Africa. Homo sapiens evolved in Africa.
Does the branch manager truly believe the bank has a surplus so they don’t have to pay higher rates on CDs? This is a bank the government helped so they wouldn’t go under, so why does the Matteson branch manager believe they don’t need more money because they have enough? I hope he was speaking for himself, not the bank as a whole. If it wasn’t for taxpayers how many of the big banks would still be in business? If this has happened to you, write to the bank’s chief executive officer and move your money elsewhere. I plan to.
