I’m looking forward to the Chick-fil-A slated to open Sept. 26 at Chicago Ridge Mall. I wonder how many people will turn out for the Sept. 25 contest to win a Chick-fil-A meal every week for a year.
The death of World War II U.S. Air Corps Sgt. John Wrana is the saddest thing I have heard in a very long time. I am blessed to be a volunteer at Edward Hines Jr. Veteran Affairs Hospital and have contact with veterans from all wars. They are all to be treated with respect and honored for their service to our country. How could anyone fire three beanbag rounds at a 95-year-old person? It was a senseless act and a use of excessive force that took a man’s life. Someone needs to pay for their actions.

I think roundabouts are useless, confusing and a waste of taxpayers’ money. If you can’t drive straight then what makes it safer driving in a circle? Politicians need to spend our money in a more useful way. If they need to spend money then I would rather see it given back to the people as a tax rebate than thrown away on some useless project that costs millions and is something we can live without.
Some of the Middle Eastern countries now look at the United States as a paper tiger rather than the might she used to be.

To all Speak Out readers: Don’t listen to anyone who uses the Bible as a defense regarding the nonacceptance of homosexuality. I am a Catholic and have read the Bible several times through school and on my own. In it there are both straight and gay individuals. Not once is it mentioned that being gay is a sin. Jesus preached the same message over and over. Love one another and treat others as you wish to be treated. Jesus did not discriminate against gay individuals. He accepted everyone. I think to say that he didn’t is false.
I think the reason so many people either don’t like or don’t understand Obamacare is the way it was implemented. The only way it was upheld was to declare it a penalty. It was pushed through without anyone actually knowing what was in it, as stated by then-U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when she said, “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.” Obamacare is a huge box that cost billions but you can’t look inside before you buy it. Who does that?
Why does it seem like there are no lights on the streets of Mokena or New Lenox? A deer jumped out in front of my car on a recent morning. I did hit it, but it didn’t die and there was minimal damage to my car. Thank you, Mokena Police Department, for finding me and coming to my aid. If the streets were lit up it would have been a lot easier for me to let them know where I was. They told me it was deer mating season. Drivers, please be careful.

Bus drivers sometimes get a bad rap, but many of the ones I’ve encountered are kind. Case in point was the recent heavy rainstorm that flooded several viaducts. The driver I had took an alternate route to one of the stops so we didn’t end up stuck with the other vehicles that were stuck under a viaduct. Thank you, conscientious and thoughtful bus drivers. How would we get anywhere without you?
I’m a disgusted parent who thinks any teacher who would walk out on their students and go on strike is showing that they are teaching strictly for themselves and don’t give a darn about their students. It does not matter whether they work for Chicago Public Schools, Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124, Argo High School District 217 in Summit or any other school district.
About Link card usage: The more I read about people defending Link card usage, the more I realize that they sound like they would be happier if America turned communist. Wake up! Communism didn’t work. Free market and hard work does.

Driving while on a cell phone is just as much of a hazard as drunk driving, or even more so. At least drunk drivers are paying attention. You are not paying attention when you are texting or talking on a cell phone. They should have roadblocks and spotters to catch these people, and it should be an instant ticket.

I keep hearing that unions are asking too much, that they are irrelevant now, that they are their own worst enemy, and that working folks should just be happy if they have a job. It sure sounds a lot like those who said slaves should just be happy that they had a job. Many of us are slaves to a low-paying, no-benefit job, but where are we to go? The fear of not finding another job and of losing health care insurance keeps many Americans from leaving those jobs.
Chicago should just admit the truth as to why they don’t want to add a minute to the yellow on stoplights. I think it’s money. I’ve heard that adding a minute to the yellow decreases accidents and decreases red-light offenses, but it seems like Chicago denies this fact. I think Chicago would rather that people are killed and injured in accidents than lose the money from red-light infraction fees.
Thanks to some of the comments made. It seems like a lot of very well-written comments have been made about the state of the news presented, evolution, religion and the war machine lately. Thank you for all your insightful comments. As they used to say on the TV show “The X-Files,” “The truth is out there.”
