There was no big memorial tribute for the late Larry Hagman or the late Jack Klugman at the Emmys. What a shame that TV royalty didn’t get the recognition they deserved!
Is violence really down in Chicago? It’s hard to believe that it is down when the news reports so many shootings almost daily. Who really knows?
To creationists: I have a suggestion. Honor your God and educate yourself. Take a course in evolution, get an A and then report in Speak Out your new point of view. If you choose not to do this, I think you are a coward, comfortable in your little box and afraid to think outside of your box. Are you strong enough to take my challenge?
While taking a recent walk down 167th Street, I counted six Illinois vehicles with rear license plates but no front license plates. Why does it seem like Corvette, Firebird, Camaro, Escalade, BMW and Acadia drivers get a pass on the required front license plate law?
It seems to me that the only reason the United States would attack Syria now is not because of justice or morality but to sooth the ego of President Obama. It’s almost as if he cannot stand the fact that the world is telling him he cannot do whatever he wants. He is like a 2-year-old who hates the word “no.” Unfortunately, this can lead to the death of Americans and more trouble in our world. We’ve spent enough time in the Middle East. It’s time for us to stay out.
I see some retired teachers are returning to payrolls. They should retire later, or we should halt their pensions till they truly retire. There should be no double dipping.
The news had a report about adding time to the yellow light. A study was done by professionals. In cities where time had been added to the yellow light, accidents were greatly reduced. No, I don’t speed, but I’m intelligent enough to know that politicians don’t do anything that doesn’t benefit them.
The deadline looms in every local, state and federal legislative body. They talk about nonsense things for weeks and then, at the last minute, they have to rush to get deals done on such things as budget, immigration, pensions, farm bills and the like. If they spent as much time “working,” there wouldn’t have to be these last-minute deals. We wouldn’t have to worry about sequesters, shutdowns and layoffs.
With my union trade skills I can easily find a nonunion job anywhere, but why would I for less pay and no benefits? I proudly pay my union dues. People who put their fate in the hands of big corporations and the government are the ones who are truly brainwashed. As the saying goes, “United we stand, divided we fall.”

ABC’s “Betrayal” is another TV show being filmed in Chicago. I was surprised that movie actor Stuart Townsend is taking on television. Then again, Kiefer Sutherland captivated on the small screen in Fox’s hit show “24.”
The health care law has brought so many changes such as removing lifetime caps, covering pre-existing conditions, keeping your children on your plan up to age 26, and providing coverage to more people. I am thrilled this law offers protections to American families. Too many times I see parents of sick kids struggle to pay medical bills, families going bankrupt due to illness and others unable to go to the doctor because they have no insurance. How can anyone buy into the Republican idea that the free market should take care of our health care woes? Have we lost our moral compass?
To teachers age 55 and up who collect a pension and no longer work: Thank a taxpayer.

In my opinion you can stick that Fireball where the sun doesn’t shine because that is only a moneymaker for the Illinois Lottery. It does nothing for the player. You charge to use it and have a ball with no number so who benefited from that? There should be no charge to use the Fireball. Wake up! I did and I will not play anymore. Goodbye.

If the deer in Mokena and New Lenox are having a hard time seeing Kathi from Orland Park because there are no streetlights, perhaps she should turn on the headlights of her car so she can see the deer and avoid hitting them, or maybe she should slow down when driving.
I would like everyone to know about Sweet Things Ice Cream parlor in Crestwood. It is such a refreshing change from the big ice cream shops and well surpasses the quality and service one would normally receive. They also offer gourmet popcorn.
