Clark Weber helps people make the most of their golden years. Bravo to the former disc jockey who lives in a retirement community and travels to other retirement communities to entertain.

I am glad I live in Illinois even though so many of my friends and family continue to brag about the weather they have in states that don’t have four seasons due to our winters. I go outside in the fall, look at the beautiful colors of the trees, smell burning leaves and just smile. I will take the snow any day so I am able to love the little things in life.

Laura from Monee

The United States has been sending Africa billions of dollars. Why? Did you know there are 55 billionaires in Africa?

RC from Oak Lawn

Construction workers are at risk at the work site for the interchange with Interstate 294. The speed limit is 45 mph. I have almost been rear-ended three times, heard lots of beeping horns behind me, and have drivers of passenger cars and trucks passing me making obscene gestures. I know the Illinois budget is limited, but is it possible for state troopers to patrol there? I’ve seen one state trooper there making a stop. If the camera van is moved from the Kankakee Interstate 57 construction site, it will pay for itself in a day especially during evening rush hour.

Bob from Homewood

Some antievolutionist took “courses” in evolution and wants us to believe professors jumped through hoops trying to explain it. What kind of course(s) did this person take and where? The theory of evolution isn’t a stand-alone idea. It’s the basis of biology, the study of plant, animal, insect, viral and bacterial life. The theory explains how life has adapted to climate change and is adapting to current climate changes. It explains how insect pests, weeds, bacteria and viruses can become resistant to chemicals and drugs once used to control or eradicate them. It’s not some niche idea.

Chicago

About the lottery: I hate going to gasoline stations for gas where I stand in line to buy $20 worth of gas for 10 minutes while people in front of me take their time just buying lottery tickets. Most of these gas station have only one person working and two employees stocking shelves. Service in the United States seems nonexistent.

Donation boxes for clothes, shoes or books is an awesome idea. In Burbank it seems like every store along Cicero Avenue has plenty of them. I believe there is absolutely no reason to have eight of these drop boxes along 79th Street between Cicero and Central avenues. The businesses that are closed or vacant look horrible enough without adding to the eyesores. I wonder if any of our politicians even care about our great city anymore.

Burbank

A brawl broke out at Rich South High School in Richton Park. Don’t blame the teachers, principal, society or the police. The blame falls squarely on the shoulders of the parents who raised these children to act like savages. I think the police should round up all these parents and throw them in jail. They are the ones who created the kind of children who would do this in a school.

Tinley Park

I’m a disgusted American citizen. Why don’t President Obama and the headstrong Democrats compromise? They’re the minority party in this situation, aren’t they?

To W.L. from Oak Forest: I, too, was upset that friends in other suburbs were getting channels that I had to pay extra for. When I called my cable company, they put the blame on my village and the contract they negotiated years ago. The village says no. So who do you believe.

The fact that education activist Malala Yousafzai didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize proves to me that there are too many cultures in the world who believe in barefoot and pregnant. An educated woman is a threat to the men of these cultures since they will then know how ignorant the men truly are and want better for themselves. These women are not respected or valued. The men want slaves, not thinking women. It was a total slap in the face to women worldwide that Malala did not win. Who are the men who choose the winners?

Dawn

I’m fed up already. While Congress does nothing but is still getting paid, true Americans like Chris Cox are mowing the lawn at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. This has inspired 200 other Americans to do the same around the country. Isn’t it time that Congress figures out they, too, are Americans and ought to stop inflicting pain on all for whom they work and get paid by?

Worth

I feel that McDonald’s should serve breakfast until 2 p.m.

Rick from Evergreen Park

I just read a story about a doctor, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who said the Affordable Care Act is an important step. I’ve read several comments in Speak Out saying how bad this law is and that doctors are leaving the profession because of it. Well, according to what I have been reading, this is just not true. Instead of wasting our money and time trying to defund or repeal this law, our Congress should be working to make it better. I am tired of these guys trying to take the United States into default for their own personal agenda.

Panera Bread donates to shelters at the end of the day. Why not schools? For some kids, that food at school is all they get to eat in a day.
