So many animals need forever homes, so I hope people are supporting places like the Animal Medical Center of Sauk Village and Lulu’s Locker Rescue in Oak Forest.
Thank you to the Southlanders who have done up their homes for Halloween. It’s always fun to see.
A commenter recently implied that a brutal winter will be the result of the Republican Party. This is unlikely for two reasons: The Republicans couldn’t agree on anything, and they are the Party of No not snow.

To the Speak Out commenter who compared seniors to rats scurrying when the lights are turned on: How would you like to be like my aunt, who is 91 years old and living on one small Social Security check? Shame on you! I can’t believe this is how your parents raised you.

I saw craft beer being sold for $9.99 for a 22-ounce bottle. I’m in the wrong business.

I have to agree with the commenter on preferred cards. I have a purse full of them, with every store I shop at doing the same thing.
Can someone tell us why we’re already making repairs to U.S. 30?

I’d like to see the Old Barn in Burbank reopened in its original splendor. My family worked there. There was some phenomenal talent that performed in the lounge. Many people I know would like to see it open again as an upscale restaurant. I know it’s going to take work but believe it will be worth it to the city in revenue and attraction to the facility as a landmark, much like the Homestead Barr in Oak Lawn. Anyone with access to the Internet and Facebook can search and see the many pages and people who are for this idea.
What is wrong with some people nowadays? It seems that a ton of people are all about me, me and me. They don’t take other people’s feelings into consideration. They’re only worried about how things will affect them, and they are so selfish when it comes to wanting things to go their way. Where do these attitudes come from? Why can’t people think about someone other than themselves?
I’m an American, born and raised in Illinois. I love this country. I’m a retired, handicapped senior and voted in almost every election I could. I voted down straight party lines. Then I grew up and realized there are good people in both parties so I became an independent. The way my country is run makes me sick. Our so-called president and House and Senate members are supposed to consider the wishes of those who voted them into office. Instead, they act like spoiled brats. They should be voted out of office for putting this great country in harm’s way.
Regarding the proposed Illiana Expressway being a toll road: Taxpayers do fund their local fire departments, but they and their insurance companies are still charged for emergency ambulance service. Taxpayers will pay for the construction of the new expressway, but I think the owners of the trucks and automobiles who use it will pay for its operation and maintenance.
I think most believers are really agnostics and most atheists are also agnostics.
To Ron from Alsip: Debate it all you want, but evolution is still a theory. There is no missing link found that makes the jump from ape to man, just like there is no found remains of Bigfoot. The evolution theory is all about advancing man over God. I have not found one person yet who is trying to advance this theory that has found the fountain of youth or the capability to live forever so they cannot even help themselves.
Enough is enough! The fools elected to run the United States caused the federal shutdown. Obamacare is not going to work, but the citizens who voted for President Obama can thank themselves for that. The hardheaded politicians who are acting like spoiled brats need to wake up and get this country back on its feet.

Regarding child abuse: I saw in the newspaper that a 25-year-old man was held for the abuse of his 2-month-old daughter. This isn’t the first report and unfortunately it won’t be the last. My solution is to prevent these abusers from having children by sterilizing them. I know it won’t stop the abuse, but why should they reproduce?
We all grieve in different ways. Sometimes a person doesn’t experience emotions related to the death of a loved one until months later. Remember this when you deal with those who have lost someone close to them. Maybe all they need is to know that someone cares and is willing to listen to them, so reach out and let them know you are there for them. It may be the thing that makes all the difference in their world.
