It’s a sad time for America. Our solid postal system is under attack with closings and reducing services. There may be cost factors, but to uproot the world’s finest postal service should find solutions.
I’d like to thank Principal Paul McDermott, the staff and the students at Independence Junior High School in Palos Heights who through artwork, poems and their band honored the veterans. It was a very touching program, and it was enjoyed and appreciated by all the veterans.
President Obama has apologized for basically lying to the American people over and over again during his entire campaign about being able to keep your health plan. He’s admitted it. So, is this illegal? How does he get away with this?
I hope all government workers who never served a day in the military had a nice day off this Veterans Day while my husband who did serve in the military had to work. But I guess somebody has to pay your salaries. So remember that the next time you complain about how badly you have it. There are a lot of people out there who don’t have it as good.
It’s amazing how Swallow Cliff in Palos Township is up and running and that there is all this money for improvements now that there is no toboggan slide there. Why can’t we have the toboggan slides back?
People should quit using Speak Out to fight about belief and evolution. This fight has been going on for thousands of years to the point where people who have faith have been persecuted and killed, and they are killing people in many countries now in 2013. All of this fighting hasn’t changed their hearts and hasn’t changed their belief in a god. It doesn’t scare them. What makes you think that all of your words in Speak Out will make them change their minds? Believe the way you want and move on.
Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and all of the defensive stars are hurt as the Bears’ chances go down the drain. Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose missed an entire season while hurt and recently received another injury. You might as well just chuck Chicago’s baseball teams right now. What Chicago team’s players are rarely, if ever, hurt; are great guys and are soaring high right now? I’ll give you a hint. Even with two Stanley Cups, there is still room on the bandwagon. Da, da-da-da, da-da-da. Go, Chicago Blackhawks!
The American dream is wealth plain and simple. The overwhelming majority of us will attend school, find a job, maintain health, get married, have children, own a home, take vacations and engage in hobbies. But only a minuscule number of us will have riches vast enough to provide full autonomy, long-term security and philanthropic opportunities on a massive scale.

Nobody is going to convince me that there isn’t a scam going on with gasoline prices. I passed by a gas station and the price went up 33 cents per gallon in three hours. What a rip-off! I can’t wait for the day when I can move out of Cook County or even Illinois.
So the U.S. Constitution says civil officers can be impeached, but our Founding Fathers never thought the people would be so stupid that we would re-elect those who have committed crimes against us. Why impeach them in the first place? Can former Gov. Rod Blagojevich run for office from prison? Let’s re-elect him even if he doesn’t campaign.
Regarding headlights: What is with these new superbright headlights on cars and trucks now? I was driving on Interstate 80 the other day, and I was frequently blinded by these bluish or silvery-colored headlight beams. What was wrong with the lower-intensity beams? These new headlights are more appropriate for jet plane landing lights. I think they are a driving hazard and should be banned.
Has any retailer, such as Macy’s, given any thought to all the retail workers who will be giving up their Thanksgiving Day with their families just to have stores open for the greed of retailers? No retail worker can meet with family and enjoy a day of thanksgiving with their families as they should be doing. There should be no working crazy hours for a few sales. Stores should be closed on Sundays and holidays so families can be together and not torn apart.
This Nov. 17, the Illiana Derby Dames, a flat-track roller derby team, will be skating in a bout for charity. These girls raise money for many charities and do it strictly for the love of the game and not for themselves. On Sunday they will be raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project. They will be at the Lynwood Sport Center, 2030 Glenwood-Dyer Road. The bout starts at 7 p.m. Please come early and support our wounded warriors. You go, Dames!

When I was a kid, the Prudential Building, which is about 40 stories, was the tallest building in Chicago. I suggest a permanent spire of 2,000 feet be attached to the top. Then it can be the tallest building in America.
