One should carefully consider everything involved in giving someone an animal as a present for the holidays. | File photo

Regarding pets for Christmas: I think it would be wise to make sure the recipient wants a pet as a Christmas gift. After the holidays, a lot of gifted pets end up in shelters.
Once again Tinley Park has received accolades as being the ninth-best “small” town in America according to real estate research website Movoto. No other Illinois towns were in the top 10 and yet still people complain and moan in Speak Out about how poorly our village is run. I guess some people are never happy, or maybe they just want power for themselves. That’s what I suspect. Thank you, Mayor Ed Zabrocki and your team, for making our town the wonderful place that it is.

I always thought the library was a place of learning and intelligence, but it seems like the Orland Park Public Library does not feel the same way. I think they feel it’s more important to let someone come into their library and possibly look at porn than to hold a higher standard and protect our children.
Regarding more prisons: The United States has 5 percent of the world’s population but 25 percent of the world’s prison population. We don’t need more prisons. We need more jobs and a higher minimum wage so that people can sustain themselves without resorting to crime.
If you are considering a series of treatments for an ailment and have been shown X-rays that seem to indicate that you would benefit from the treatment, make sure the X-rays are yours. Your name should be on the X-rays. There are unscrupulous individuals who would show you someone else’s X-rays just to get your money and the insurance. Beware! The world is full of con men.
Ha ha ha! The joke is Chicago Bull Derrick Rose. His $95 million contract ended up being for a useless, injury-ridden player. It must be nice to not work and still pull in all of that money.
About saying “merry Christmas”: Things I say when there is a crisis or something good is happening: “Oh my God,” “God help us” and “thank God.” What do atheists say? Thank God they are a small percentage. They are not happy with us being happy. They want to remove Christ from Christmas and take God off of everything. They are a real problem.

Since it was recently the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, may I suggest a few videos for those who are really interested in this terrible tragedy on the American public? Before the Oliver Stone movie “JFK” came out, there was, in my opinion, a better one, and I guess that is why it is not shown on television. The title is “Executive Action.” After you watch that one, then get the documentary “I Shot JFK: The Shocking Truth,” an interview with James Files. It is time America wakes up.
About Obamacare: I just wanted to thank President Obama for his health care law. My sister was unable to get health care insurance due to a pre-existing condition. She just enrolled on the HealthCare.gov website and will be insured effective Jan. 1st.

U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk needs to know that eastern Will County doesn’t appreciate being considered pegs in the private-public partnership of the Illiana Expressway, a toll road. Our lives, lands, homes and families shouldn’t be taken or uprooted to play around with this experimentation. Once you pave over this prime soil, you can’t bring it back. I think state Sen. Toi Hutchinson and those of her ilk don’t have the authority to colonize this whole area and rename it. She is the one playing Chicago politics and yes, the Illinois Department of Transportation builds roads, but do they maintain them?

Regarding song requests: I notice up north here that the only radio station that plays the national anthem is a country music station. I would challenge those who listen to any other station when asked what song you would like to hear, tell them the national anthem at noon. As a kid, I recall that it used to be played at noon all the time. Kudos to WUSN-FM (99.5), US99.5, at noon.
There are people who fall on hard times and those who have assistance forever. The point is: how can some afford to maintain a car, gasoline and insurance if they are on public assistance, not to mention have the most expensive cars and topnotch cellular phones? There are people who are cutting their medicine in half because they can’t afford it nor get any government help. I think these are not assumptions, just facts.

If you want to expose and weed out governmental corruption, I think you should assign inspector general task forces to each county. Give them the authority to investigate all governmental activities within the border of that county. Have the IG answer exclusively to the people and law enforcement authorities via their reports on illicit activity. In other words, “put the fear of God” in these scoundrels in local public government.
How many people are on President Obama’s excuse committee because they are really good at their jobs to come up with all of those excuses for him?

Who caught the American Music Awards on television? I thought it was interesting that a number of artists expanded their musical performance horizons from Justin Timberlake’s jazzy feel to Jennifer Lopez paying tribute to Celia Cruz.
