George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in the case involving Trayvon Martin’s death, was arrested again. Do we really care? But why was he able to be mischievous and still walk around with guns?
Those of us who celebrate Thanksgiving in the traditional way with family, friends, good conversation and a cornucopia of food, we are the fortunate ones. There are many who treat the holiday as just another day. It may be unconventional, but it may be their way of coping with what life has thrown at them. I don’t judge. If shopping at the mall on Thanksgiving or Black Friday is your forte, then so be it. I don’t like crowded stores and shopping at 5 a.m. for a bargain. Just be grateful for the opportunity to be able to do it.

Some of us are getting sick and tired of the few and weird in the United States taking over the rights of the majority.
I’m an animal lover, but one thing I’ve always taught my children and grandchildren is to never go up to any animal that you do not know or doesn’t have an owner who says that it is OK. You don’t know when a strange animal will give you a nasty bite. There could be an innocent-looking Chihuahua that could do some serious damage if it gets a child in the face. I think it’s very foolish to go up to any strange animal.
I listen to sports radio or television virtually every day. Often I’m subjected to frequent reports concerning the latest contract some professional player signs. They provide the contract amount that is always in the multimillions. It just disgusts me that I wasted my time watching the Chicago White Sox, the local South Side team, this past season display some of the worst fundamental baseball I’ve witnessed in all my years of viewing, which stretches over decades. To think that the greats of the past made chicken feed compared to these louts, who couldn’t carry the old-timers’ jockstraps, is highly appalling.

A commenter stated that people who took jobs in stores knew that they would have to work the holidays. No, they didn’t. Many of these stores would close on holidays or have shortened hours. Employees knew they would be able to get the day off and be able to celebrate the holiday. What has happened over the past few years is corporate greed from the owners, who we know are not working on the holidays. They want to make more money, and people fall for this by standing in line for hours like drones.
I think people who are opposed to Obamacare should be ashamed. Just because you got up and went to work every day to pay your own bills, took care of your health and acted responsibly, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t mind having your insurance premium doubled or being dropped from your policy or having your bill tripled so you can help pay for others, some of whom act irresponsibly. Why wouldn’t you mind paying for someone else’s insurance when they don’t take care of themselves?
I can see that some of the Illinois politicians have just taken us a step down. They are voting for their own initiatives instead of voting with their constituents. I hope they will be found out come election time.
Matt Lauer from the TV show “Today” is attempting to grow a mustache and a beard. I think he should give it up because it looks unkempt and it doesn’t help his appearance. He should worry about growing hair on his head.
I can’t understand why automobile dealers were stopped from opening up on Sundays to begin with. Let the people decide where and when they want to shop. I work all week. When I want to buy a car I don’t want to try to cram it all into one day.
I’m not sure if Gov. Pat Quinn believes in same-sex marriage, but I do believe he would get a lot of votes from the gay community.
You must make sure an organization is reputable before donating toys or gift cards. Make sure that those items will get to the needy. What’s to stop an unscrupulous organizer from letting their friends or family pick from the donations rather than giving to the poor?
I came across the American Music Awards on television. The warnings are a sad statement on current society. Intense sexual situations, strong coarse language and intensely suggestive dialogue were among the warnings. Considering that so many kids watch these shows, it’s so sad that people accept such trash for their kids.
Welcome, neighbor. Our family had relatives from Europe visit. They could not believe that there were areas of Chicago where one was not welcome. How could you take them to visit your old neighborhood when it looks like the United Kingdom after Germany’s Blitz?
The stock market is hitting records. Who is going to be richer? Stock market and Wall Street investors, that’s who. Why can’t regular people get richer and get some money on savings interests better than 0.01 percent from the bank?
What did television’s Oprah Winfrey do to deserve the Presidential Medal of Freedom?
My brother was recently shopping at a grocery store in Oak Forest when he found an envelope. Inside was $6 and a note that stated, “ I hope you find this money and smile.” I hope the person who did this is reading this right now and realizes that they are making a difference in this world. I hope they are smiling too.
