For the record, I think my neighbor Bob, who has a snowplow and a pickup truck, is pretty special. He works long hours and still finds time to plow my driveway and several others in the neighborhood. He may not be curing cancer, but he may be helping someone get to their cancer treatments. Thanks, Bob.
Could someone please explain to me why on these Internet forms you fill out there is the question of your state and ZIP code? Why not just ask for one’s ZIP code? That automatically designates state.
There is violence all around: school shootings, children killing their siblings and parents, wars and gangs. But heaven forbid that God would be allowed back into the United States and the classroom! That would ruin everything.
I think the opening number featuring Beyonce and Jay Z performing “Drunk in Love” at the Grammy Awards on Jan. 26 was disgusting. Our young children were watching and that is nothing for them to see. Between the sexual moves and having to bleep out some of the words to the song, it was just too much. Beyonce is a mother for goodness sake! What has happened to her values and morals?

Wisconsin is expecting a $1 billion surplus. They were just like Illinois when they were running up huge deficits and raising taxes. Then Scott Walker got elected as governor and instituted reforms. Now they have a $1 billion surplus. He totally turned his state around, and he’s going to give the surplus back to the taxpayers because it’s their money. Before all of this a lot of the Democrats were trying to ruin his career and kick him out of politics, but he held fast. Why can’t Gov. Quinn do this? I think Quinn likes to raise people’s taxes.
I thought I had a good union job over the years. I really appreciate the job I had. I was happy although I never made more than $60,000 per year. But I look in the newspaper and read that former Bolingbrook cop Drew Peterson, who is serving jail time for a murder conviction, gets a $79,000-per-year pension. He retired at age 53 and gets $79,000 per year? It’s no wonder Illinois is so far into debt when they can give away money like this. I don’t deny anyone a pension you worked hard for, but $79,000 per year? Come on!
If you think drinking is a sin then don’t drink. If you think smoking will kill you then don’t smoke. If you think abortion is wrong then don’t have one, but leave the rest of us alone.
These “I think I’m in power and can treat people like garbage” bosses should remember one thing. The people over you don’t get you fired. The people under you do get you fired.
A lot of people are complaining that President Obama is invading innocent people’s privacy. Don’t forget the National Security Agency surveillance program was authorized by President Bush. He put those wiretapping policies in to combat terrorism after 9/11.
Crestwood wants Moraine Valley Community College to approve their extension of a tax increment financing district. I think the college board should vote no. Since Crestwood misspent all that money for all those years, then they should pay for it. Let the Crestwood residents foot the bill since it’s their problem.
Indiana always had lake-effect snow in that Interstate 94 area. I think they never bothered to equip themselves properly. Every winter, there will be a week or two when those roads are closed because of snow. Now they are having people hurt with all these accidents. They know the snow is coming. It’s not a surprise to them.
It burns my butt to see these MLB teams reaching out to foreign players and paying them $100 million or more. Some of them can’t speak and can’t write English. Why can’t these teams reach out to our high schools and colleges here in the United States and recruit?

Renewing of wedding vows is a symbol of a strong commitment of those vows, not an expression of insecurity. Some people take their vows seriously and would like to show that in a small ceremony. So many people nowadays don’t take pride in their vows and wouldn’t hesitate to cheat on their spouse.
A newspaper headline states, “Aldermen bemoan lack of control over medical marijuana dispensaries.” In other words, they are not getting their way. They try to control everything from cigarettes, soda, tanning, Styrofoam or marijuana, just to name a few, and then “bemoan” when they can’t. I’m surprised they are “bemoaning” this issue since it was supposed to be one of the greatest things to happen to Illinois. Did they just pass something and not think it through again?
I have a dream. It’s an impossible dream to be sure. Every day we hear about shootings on the streets, schools, stores and other places. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the people with guns, knives or whatever got rid of them with the chips on their shoulders so that radios, televisions and press could announce that there were no killings in America this week?
Would you like to do away with all regulations? That way we could have more pipeline breaks, oil leaks, train derailments, bridges collapsing and air pollution.
