No injuries were reported Friday after a fire broke out about 8:30 a.m. in an upstairs bathroom of a two-story Matteson home in the 4100 block of Oakwood Lane, Matteson Deputy Fire Chief Chris Schwalbe said.
No one was home at the time, and it is believed a neighbor saw smoke and called the fire department, he said.
Firefighters battled the fire for three hours in frigid temperatures. They were assisted by the Frankfort, Flossmoor, Park Forest and Richton Park fire departments, he said.
Matteson firefighters were called to another, smaller residential fire a short time later in the 21700 block of Richton Road, where a fire started in a closet, Schwalbe said.
Firefighters were on that scene for two hours, assisted by Tinley Park fire crews.
