Propane tank collections
The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration recently issued an emergency recall order of 55,000 propane tanks manufactured by the Lite Cylinder Co.
According to the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the order directs that certain two-piece, fully wrapped fiber composite cylinders are commonly used as portable fuel tanks for liquefied petroleum gas.
Anyone who has a propane tank that needs to be disposed of can drop it off at any New Lenox Fire Protection District fire station.
Tanks subject to the recall should be handled with caution as these cylinders may leak flammable gas or suddenly rupture.
