Three men, including an 18-year-old from Park Forest, have been charged with the robbery of a man while he attempted to hail a cab early Saturday in the North Side Lakeview neighborhood, police said.
About 12:45 a.m. Saturday, a man was robbed while attempting to hail a cab near Sheffield and Belmont avenues, according to a release from police News Affairs.
Four men hit him repeatedly until he fell to the ground and stole his cell phone and other property, the release said. The robbers fled when a witness confronted them.
A police officer found the four robbers and took them into custody a short time later, the release said. One of the four men began punching, kicking, and pushing the officer and escaped.
Terrell Williams, 18, of the 3300 block of Western Avenue in Park Forest, and William Brown, 25, of the 300 block of South Western Avenue, Chicago, were each charged with one count of robbery, the release said. Dontay Underwood, 19, of the 500 block of West Chestnut Street, Chicago, was charged with one count of robbery, one count of resisting a peace officer and issuance of warrant for an outstanding warrant.
All three men are scheduled to appear in bond court Feb. 20.
