Seton’s Kamal Shasi hopes a regional title is a stop along the way to the state title.
That doesn’t stop the senior from enjoying the ride.
Shasi scored 21 points on seven three-pointers and Mark Weems Jr. finished with 17 points and six assists as host Seton defeated Illiana Christian 92-61 in a Class 2A regional final Friday night.
“We wanted to start the game off hard with a lot of pressure,” Shasi said. “This was our Senior Night. This regional was special, especially being on our home court. I guess I’m a little spoiled.”
The regional title was Seton’s seventh straight.
Alex Foster (12) and Armahn Mooring (10) contributed for the Sting (19-10). Illiana Christian (19-10) was led by Caleb Jonkman (17 points) and Elijah Lares (15).
Shasi hit four three-pointers in the first quarter as Seton opened up a 25-13 lead. His second-quarter trey ignited a 9-0 run that gave the Sting a 48-27 lead.
“It all comes from playing hard,” Shasi said. “Things come easy when you play defense.”
