Garetto, an Alsip resident, is wrapping up a three-sport career. Besides baseball, he was on the Astros bowling and golf teams. The pitcher/infielder ranks 12th in his class with a 4.6 GPA, scored 29 on the ACT and will attend Illinois.

Rumor has it you’ve rolled a couple of 300 games. Is that true?

Yes. One was during practice and the other was my sophomore year against Tinley Park.

Were you nervous in the 10th frame?

I was shaking like crazy. But my dad was more nervous than I was.

You’re part of a dying breed in high school sports, the three-sport athlete. What’s the experience been like?

It’s tough balancing everything out, like homework and hanging out with your friends. But I really enjoyed it.

If you could have your pick, which celebrity would you choose as your prom date?

Mila Kunis.

What’s your favorite baseball movie?

“Moneyball”.

You’re stranded on a deserted island. You can have an endless supply of one food. What would it be?

Kraft macaroni and cheese.

What the most important value your parents have instilled in you?

Their high expectations have given me a great work ethic.

Your father is owner of Beggars Pizza. What’s it like to never have to pay for pizza?

I can’t tell you how many friends have asked me for free pizza over the years. I have 17 years of catching up to do.

Why’s that?

I hated pizza till about two months ago. I hate tomato sauce. But I was so hungry one night, I heated a few pieces up and really liked it. I’ve been missing out for 17 years.

As told to Pat Disabato
