A 22-year-old Blue Island man is facing felony charges after killing a 61-year-old man from India in a hit-and-run accident last week in Tinley Park, police said.
Michael T. Epley, of 2257 Prairie St., was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of drugs, failure to stop after having an accident involving personal injury or death, and other traffic offenses, police said in a news release.
Bail for Epley was set Saturday at $250,000 and he is due in court Tuesday at the Cook County courthouse in Bridgeview, according to court records.
Rajendrakumar Shah, who was in the United States for a wedding and to visit family in Tinley Park, died Wednesday night — on his 61st birthday — after Epley allegedly hit him with his pickup truck at 9:13 p.m. while Shah was walking across 159th Street at 80th Avenue in Tinley Park, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Epley fled the scene, police said.
Shah, who was staying with family in the 16100 block of Kensington Avenue, died about 10 p.m. Wednesday at Palos Community Hospital, according to the medical examiner’s office.
