Dominic Lagone rushed for four touchdowns and the Providence defense held Minooka’s Nate Gunn to 10 yards rushing.
Minooka was hanging close for a while, but Providence quarterback Justin Hunniford engineered three consecutive scoring drives in the second quarter to open a 28-7 lead. The final two touchdowns in the run scored with 2:06 and 0:18 left before halftime.
Lagone, who carried tacklers early and often, rushed for 123 yards in 18 carries in the first half and tacked on a 13-yard scoring run on his only carry of the second half to finish with 136 yards on 19 carries. His earlier TD runs were 3, 2 and 7 yards. He also caught two passes for 24 yards.
BY THE NUMBERS
Hunniford completed 13-of-23 passes for 179 yards and a 36-yard TD to Miles Boykin. Luc Quaranta caught four passes for 54 yards, Boykin three for 58. For Minooka, Gunn rushed 10 times for 10 yards and the Indians netted 27 in 27 carries. Shane Briscoe completed 12-of-20 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns, including a 60-yard TD strike to Zachry Zamora, who caught eight for 112 yards, all in the first half.
