Updated: October 21, 2013 2:18PM
When: 6 p.m. Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field, Chicago.
Coaches: Mike Feminis, St. Xavier; Jared Williamson, Robert Morris.
Previous meeting: St. Xavier won 28-19 on Nov. 10, 2012, in Arlington Heights
St. Xavier preview: The Cougars were outscored 31-6 in the second half of last week’s 51-20 loss to the University of Indianapolis, an NCAA Division II program. ... The biggest development from that game was the insertion of redshirt freshman John Rhode into the lineup at quarterback. He completed 17-of-26 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions. ... “John did a lot of good things, throwing and running,” Feminis said. “He also made some young-guy mistakes. You have to expect that when you play a redshirt freshman.” ... This week begins a stretch in which the Cougars play four straight games against teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25.
Robert Morris preview: The Eagles football program is in just its third year of existence, and has come a long way in a short time. Robert Morris finished 8-3 last season. ... The 3-0 record includes wins over Ave Maria (Fla.), Waldorf (Iowa) and a 14-7 nail-biter over Olivet Nazarene last week. ... Lamont Wims has run for 345 yards and four touchdowns while Matt Westerkamp has thrown for 679 yards and six scores. LB Dontaye Johnson leads the defense with 28 tackles. ... Jimmy McClinton (Shepard) and Sean Doherty (Lincoln-Way East) start at defensive back for the Eagles, while Josh Techeria (Bremen) does their kicking.
What Feminis said: “I don’t have a No. 1 or No. 2 quarterback. Both guys (Rhode and Joe Gill) will play. At the time (Saturday), we decided to give John a shot.”
Next week: St. Xavier visits No. 17 St. Francis. Robert Morris hosts Trinity International.
