The familiar sight of school buses reminds us that school is back in session. So I checked with Tracy Marc, Orland School District 135’s community relations coordinator, and Carla Erdey, communications director for Consolidated High School District 230, to find out what’s new with Orland park schools. Marc said District 135 “recently rolled out a huge technology program with the junior high students and our third-grade students. If you’ve traveled on LaGrange Road near 131st Street, you probably have glanced to the west and seen a large white house atop a hill just north of Carl Sandburg High School. Unusual buildings, seemingly “out of place” structures, grab my attention because it’s rare to see historic buildings in this area. I’m always curious to see what purpose such buildings are serving today. The large house along LaGrange Road is the McCord Gallery and Cultural Center, an art and music instruction center along with an art gallery.
