While Providence recorded two pins and pulled out some of the evening’s closest matches, it was Marist that showed its brawn, dominating Thursday night’s match in New Lenox.

Marist stormed out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back, improving its dual-meet record to 21-4 on the season with a 47-21 victory.

“We’re fresh right now,” RedHawks coach Brendan Heffernan said. “It’s good to see our guys with a lot of energy and wrestling hard.”

Heffernan was impressed by the performance of Ethan Benoit and Matt Sears. Benoit, normally a 182-pounder, wrestled at 195 and earned a 13-1 decision over Mike Hyrn.

Sears, a surprise tournament winner at Saturday’s Lincoln-Way Invitational, kept his hot streak alive with an 11-6 win over Joe Fulco at 126 pounds.

Josh Hickey (285), David Kasper (106) and Kenny Condon (145) all added pins for the RedHawks.

“We’re slowly getting to where we want to be as a team, and we’re confident that we’ll be there by regionals,” Heffernan said.

Vince Ambrose collected the first win of the night for the Celtics (11-10 in duals). Knotted at 1 against Marist’s Tom Howell, Ambrose scored a takedown with two seconds left in the final period to secure a 3-1 victory.

“That was a big win for Ambrose,” Providence coach Keith Healy said. “Ambrose has been a big part of our success this year.”

Eddie Klimara (132) recorded the first pin for the Celtics, and Adam Mackay (152) added the second in the final match of the night.

“I was hoping to compete better at a few weights,” Healy said. “But we have a few more weeks before regionals. We’ll go back to the drawing board.”
