An extremely young lineup has not forced Oak Lawn coach T.J. Zuzga from tempering his expectations. The Spartans have only one senior and one junior on the varsity.
“The rest of the team is sophomores and freshmen, but they’re maturing quickly,” Zuzga said. “They’re competing at this (varsity) level, which is nice to see. It shows a promising future, a dominating future perhaps.”
Zuzga hopes his young squad can finish in the top three teams in the South Suburban Red. The conference meet will be held Feb. 3 and 4. Leading the way this season for the Spartans have been three sophomores: Joe Fay, Yoon Nam and Sean Mottl.

Lemont is in the enviable position of competing for a fourth consecutive state title.
The team took second place this season at the Oak Forest Invitational, but coach Brittany Glowa sees room for improvement leading up to the state meet.
“(This team) has the most difficult routine in comparison with the last several years,” Glowa said. “As the season continues, they have become more comfortable with the routine, and it’s been getting easier for them to perform.”
The majority of the team is composed of freshmen and sophomores, but captain Nicole May has a wealth of experience. The senior has participated with every Indians state title team.

Tinley Park’s season ended with a sixth-place finish at Saturday’s Andrew Sectional, but it nonetheless was an exciting, successful campaign for the Titans.
The highlight came Jan. 14, when Tinley Park won the South Suburban Blue title for the first time. The Titans’ total six-game 6,230 pinfall total easily topped second-place Oak Forest (5,648).
Tinley Park’s Jeff Nichols (1,342) captured the individual title and led a dominating performance.
“We did very well at conference this year,” Nichols said. “All five of our varsity players placed in the top 10!”
Previously, Oak Forest, T.F. North and T.F. South were the only South Suburban Blue programs with conference titles.
