Thirteen players made the scoresheet Wednesday night for Homewood-Flossmoor as the host Vikings rolled to a 71-44 victory over Lincoln-Way Central in a game that was postponed by Friday’s snowstorm.
All 15 of the 16 varsity players who dressed for the SouthWest Suburban Blue matchup saw action coming off their 63-56 loss Tuesday to Bloom.
“Last night was kind of a disappointing evening, falling short against Bloom,’’ H-F coach Jim McLaughlin said. “So we wanted to keep the energy up and try to get everyone involved.’’
Thad Little had a team-high nine points off the bench in the second half. Antonio Bishop, Tim Williams, Rashaan Surles and Jordan Wallace each had seven points for H-F (13-5, 6-0).
“It’s nice to have the opportunity to get everybody four- or five-minute chunks in the game,’’ McLaughlin said. “We’ve been fortunate a few times this year to be able to get some good rotations, try to exert as much energy as possible.’’
Lincoln-Way Central (8-11, 1-5) closed the gap to 34-27 three minutes into the second half before H-F regained its double-digit lead, aided by a three-pointer from Tyrone Sherman for a 39-27 advantage.
“I thought we clawed back,’’ said Central coach Bob Curran, whose team trailed 32-19 at halftime. “We’ve got to be perfect when we’re trying to come back from a deficit. We have to get hot and they have to get a little cold. Things have to fall in place. It just didn’t tonight.’’
Central was led by Kevin Mampe (12 points), Johnny Finnin (11) and 6-foot-8 Brad Foster (10), who fouled out early in the fourth quarter.
“Brad in foul trouble killed us,’’ Curran said of the Lewis University-bound Foster. “We need him in there.’’
Next for the Knights is three straight home games starting Friday against Sandburg, Bolingbrook and Joliet Central.
H-F hosts Joliet Central on Friday before a key conference game Tuesday at Joliet West.
“Everything now is about getting ready for the playoffs,’’ McLaughlin said. “We’re trying to get over the hump. The old saying is if you want to truly be a good basketball team, you have to beat a good basketball team. We haven’t been able to do that yet.’’
