Cara Radkay, a gymnast since age 4, is a senior who started her prep career at Homewood-Flossmoor while living in Chicago Heights. Her family moved to Frankfort after her freshman year and she is now a part of Lincoln-Way co-op gymnastics.
What got you involved with gymnastics at such an early age?
It was my mom. She put me into a gymnastics club for kids, and I really liked it. I’ve practiced the sport every year, but I took a three-year break before high school. Once I got to school I wanted to compete again and joined the team.
What are your goals for the season?
My goal for the team would be to make it to sectionals and go from there. Individually, I’d like to place, and it seems like the beam is my best shot.
Who would you cast to play yourself in a movie?
The girl from “Juno” (Ellen Page). The way she portrayed herself in that movie, she played it weird and quirky, which is just like me.
What’s one thing you’ll remember about coach Skip Adamson?
The way he motivates everyone on the team.
Who is your dream prom date?
Don’t tell my boyfriend, but I’d go with Johnny Depp. Not the current Johnny Depp, though. I’d go for him back in the ’80s. More like “Edward Scissorhands” Johnny Depp because he was really cute and would be closer to my age.
If you could go on any reality show, which one would it be?
I’d go on “American Idol,” but I’d be really awesome. Not one of those people that everyone makes fun of.
What sticks out in your mind about the Lincoln-Way gymnastics team?
Gymnastics is an individual sport, but at Lincoln-Way, it really is a team. Everyone is supportive.
What do you see yourself doing after high school?
I’d like to go to nursing school somewhere in Chicago.
As told to Logan Malloy
