Dan Shaunnessey

School: Tinley Park

Sport: Swimming

Year: Junior

Through his junior season, Shaunnessey has done it all for the Titans. He’s taken down pool records and helped Tinley Park become a force at dual meets and invitationals, including winning the South Suburban Blue.

“We were looking to win (conference) as a team, and I wanted to win some events, but my main goal is to make it to the state tournament in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle,” he said.

Shaunnessey and the Titans will swim in the Lincoln-Way East Sectional.

Emily Ronan

School: Andrew

Sport: Gymnastics

Year: Freshman

Ronan began competing in club gymnastics when she was 8. She has enjoyed the transition from club to a high school program.

“There is a lot more freedom when it comes to choosing the skills and exercises you want to perform in a meet,” she said. “It’s been a lot of fun.”

Ronan was one of two Andrew gymnasts to qualify for the Hinsdale Central Sectional in all-around.

Roy Hickman

School: Rich South

Sport: Wrestling

Year: Junior

Hickman, a transfer from Alton High School just outside St. Louis, improved to 29-4 on the season after pinning Hillcrest’s Nigel Burnett for the 182-pound title at the Lincoln-Way West Regional.

A starting linebacker for the Rich South football team, Hickman won the Bradley Invitational and the consolation bracket at the Rich East Rocket Invitational earlier this season.

He was a varsity hurdler last season at Alton, and is expected to contribute to the Stars track and field team.

Bri Zabierek

School: Lockport

Sport: Bowling

Year: Junior

Zabierek capped a strong year by qualifying for the state meet as an individual after finishing fourth at the Plainfield South Sectional.

She had a strong showing at state, finishing 14th and averaging 216. In the 12th and final game of the event, she tossed a 278.

“It’s been a fun season,” she said. “I’ve improved a lot and I owe a lot to my teammates. We have great team chemistry and they help me a lot.”
