Saturday marked the end of the line for Kaitlyn Neiheisel.

Accordingly, the senior from Lincoln-Way co-op made her last routine count.

Competing in the finals of the floor exercise, Neiheisel finished tied for seventh in the annual state meet at Palatine.

“She’s an incredibly talented athlete,” Lincoln-Way co-op coach Skip Adamson said. “She’s done a great job with that talent. She definitely ended her high--school career on a high note.”

Neiheisel posted a score of 9.500, the same as her mark during the preliminary round Friday, when she was 10th.

“I landed my passes [tumbling] a little better this time,” Neiheisel said.

“I just went out there and had a good time. If the judges see you having a good time, they’re going to help you score out.”

Neiheisel was fifth in the same event at last year’s state meet. As a sophomore, she placed 10th on the balance beam.

“I’m proud of the things I accomplished,” Neiheisel said. “But it’s kind of sad, because I wish I could come back and do it again.

“All in all, I’m proud of what I’ve done.”

Carmel’s Kristin Mirski and DeKalb co-op’s Alyssa Lopez shared top honors in the floor exercise (9.700).

Other event winners were Carmel’s Sarah Cohen-Smith on the vault (9.875), Glenbard North’s Amanda Quinn on the uneven parallel bars (9.600) and Carmel’s Lauren Feely on the balance beam (9.575).
