The Illinois High School Association announced Thursday that no further suspensions were warranted from Friday’s brawl between St. Rita and St. Laurence.
The IHSA also said both baseball programs will be on probation until the end of next season.
“Both schools have been sent a probation letter that states if either are involved in anything remotely close to what transpired (Friday) it would bring serious consequences,” IHSA executive director Marty Hickman said. “Both schools accepted responsibility for what happened and that’s part of the reason there are no further consequences.”
St. Rita had two coaches and one player suspended.
St. Laurence had two coaches and seven players suspended from the benches-clearing brawl.
The Catholic League released a statement earlier in the week, saying it was “deeply disappointed and embarrassed by the incident that occurred during the St. Laurence-St. Rita baseball game played on Friday, May 18, as part of the ‘Do It Stevie’s Way’ showcase” at Silver Cross Field in Joliet.
