Baseball
Class 4A Fenwick Regional
No. 4 St. Laurence 9, Young 0: Kevin Smith (8-1) threw a two-hitter and also ripped a three-run homer in directing St. Laurence (30-6-1) to the title. Brad Wood (3-for-4) tacked on two RBI for the Vikings.
Class 4A Mount Carmel Regional
No. 3 Mount Carmel 6, Oak Lawn 0: T.J. Laurisch starred on the mound (3-hitter) and at the plate (3-for-4, 3 RBI) for Mount Carmel (31-5) in the championship. Joe Kennedy and Brent Novosel added RBI singles for the Caravan. Oak Lawn (22-15) received hits from Bob Kametas, Cody Marek and Brian Barnhouse.
Class 4A Providence Regional
No. 2 Providence 10, Lincoln-Way East 2: Kenny King had a double and three RBI to spearhead Providence (28-7) in the final. Zak Kutsulis (3-for-4), Kevin Tully and Branden Boggetto added two RBI apiece for the Celtics. Kevin Slawkowski and Dylan Pinto batted in runs for Lincoln-Way East (21-13).
Class 4A Richards Regional
Marist 11, No. 10 Andrew 0: Jim Carroll’s grand slam highlighted a six-run first inning for Marist (26-11) in the five-inning championship. Ryan Meyer added a two-run homer for the RedHawks to support Mike Hearne (8-4), who surrendered just four hits in going the route. Andrew finished 26-11.
Class 4A St. Rita Regional
No. 5 St. Rita 6, Brother Rice 3: Jake Shepski (4-3) pitched four shutout innings in relief and also ripped an RBI double in helping St. Rita (24-12) advance to the sectional round. Connor McLain added two RBI for the Mustangs, including a run-scoring single that started a decisive four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth. Wendall Ferguson clubbed a solo homer for Brother Rice (22-15).
Class 3A Crete-Monee Regional
Lincoln-Way West 3, No. 6 Lemont 2: Lincoln-Way West (23-13) scored twice in the top of the seventh to win the championship. Lemont finished 23-10.
Class 3A Joliet Catholic Regional
Joliet Catholic 12, Bremen 0: Nole Sanders went 2-for-2 to pace Bremen (17-20) in the five-inning championship.
Class 3A Oak Forest Regional
No. 8 Oak Forest 2, Rich Central 0: Kyle Funkhouser struck out 12 in pitching a complete game for Oak Forest (27-6) in the championship. Rich Central closed 21-17.
Class 3A T.F. North Regional
Marian Catholic 4, Illiana Christian 0: Brett Lilek (5-4) tossed a one-hitter and fanned 10 in guiding Marian Catholic (20-17) to its first regional title in 25 years. Lilek also registered an RBI, along with teammates Pat Swanson and Brad Bohlen. Rob Cifelli scored twice for the Spartans.
Class 2A Coal City Sectional
Herscher 3, Chicago Christian 2: Brodie Meyer (2-for-3, RBI) and Michael Kamp (run) were the standouts for Chicago Christian (26-13) in the championship.
Class 1A Putnam County Sectional
Ottawa Marquette 13, Illinois Lutheran 10: Curtiss Johnson (3-for-4) and Trystin Raikes (3-for-5) scored three runs apiece for Ottawa Marquette (30-7) in the title game. Illinois Lutheran closed with a 21-8 mark.
Softball
Class 4A Homewood-Flossmoor Regional
No. 8 Mother McAuley 5, Homewood-Flossmoor 2: Morgan Fleming hit a two-run double and Emily Powers (3-for-3) scored twice to steer Mother McAuley (24-10) in the championship. Ashley Rogers (22-7) allowed two hits and fanned nine in going the distance for the Mighty Macs. Homewood-Flossmoor ended 18-15.
Class 4A Plainfield North Regional
Naperville North 5, No. 3 Lockport 3: Tierney Bottino produced an RBI single and a run to aid Lockport (29-8) in the championship. Taylor Weissenhofer and Bri Carney had the remaining RBI for the Porters, while Ashley London (3-for-4) chipped in a run.
Class 4A Reavis Regional
No. 7 Marist 6, No. 4 Lincoln-Way East 4: Haley Richey (2-for-3, 4 RBI) slammed a three-run homer and Katie Caulfield (2-for-4) added a two-run shot in leading Marist (22-15) to the regional crown. Bri Morrell had two RBI for Lincoln-Way East (26-6).
Class 4A Richards Regional
No. 1 Richards 4, Stagg 2: Nicole Ellement, Breanna Kaminski and Danielle Kappel registered RBI singles for Richards (30-4) in the championship. Kyla Frain (2-for-2) doubled and scored for Stagg (15-19).
Class 3A Bremen Regional
Oak Forest 7, Bremen 0: Emily Larsen’s 12 strikeouts set the tone for Oak Forest (24-12) in the championship. Shannon Coyle (2-for-2, RBI) scored twice for the Bengals and Jordan Skirha (3-for-4) chipped in an RBI. Maggie Hayes banged out two hits for Bremen (13-20).
Class 3A Crete-Monee Regional
Kankakee 6, Crete-Monee 2: Melanie Lambert stroked a two-run single for Crete-Monee (18-13) in the championship.
Class 3A Lemont Regional
No. 6 Providence 12, Lemont 5: Ellie Bartosz (2-for-4) doubled, scored twice and had four RBI in leading Providence (25-12) to its first regional crown since 1997. Tara Airola, who added a home run, also recorded four RBI for the Celtics. Lexi Valone, Carly Jaworski, Lauren May and Carli Kavanaugh drove in runs for Lemont (25-10).
Class 3A Marian Catholic Regional
Tinley Park 9, No. 5 Marian Catholic 7: Maranda Stroz (2-for-4) swatted two homers and totaled five RBI to lift Tinley Park (24-10) in the championship. Amber Buss (3-for-4) also homered for the Titans in addition to posting two runs and two RBI. Jenny LaBella (home run) and Lauren Boyle (2-for-4) each had two RBI for Marian Catholic (24-12).
Class 3A Nazareth Regional
Nazareth 10, Evergreen Park 0: Cat Usher (4 RBI) and Kate Vondrak (2 RBI) hit home runs for Nazareth (18-16) in the five-inning championship. Evergreen Park closed with a 21-11 record.
Class 3A Queen of Peace Regional
Glenbard South 12, Queen of Peace 0: Stephanie Chitkowski pitched a complete game (2-hitter, 12 strikeouts) and her sister, Danielle, belted a three-run homer in pacing Glenbard South (33-4) in the five-inning championship. Queen of Peace finished 7-19.
Class 2A Chicago Christian Sectional
Chicago Christian 12, Noble Street-Rauner 0: Ashley Quinlan (3-for-3, 2 RBI) and Lindsay Huisenga (2-for-3, RBI) each contributed three runs for Chicago Christian (26-9) in the five-inning title game. Becky DeRuiter (26-9) hurled a two-hitter and struck out 10 for the Knights.
