Zach Reks, a left-handed hitting third baseman, capped off his career at Sandburg in fine fashion. The Air Force Academy recruit hit .485 and drove in 43 runs. He also scored 27 on the ACT.
What’s the key to becoming a good hitter?
To not think about anything while you’re batting. See the ball, hit the ball.
Cubs or White Sox?
Cubs.
Should the Cubs erect a statue to honor Sammy Sosa at Wrigley Field?
No. He used steroids.
What’s in your iPod?
Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Jack Johnson and Bob Marley.
Given the chance, what person, dead or alive, would you most like to meet? Why?
Bob Marley. He’s a very influential person. I listen to his songs before every game. It relaxes me.
Ten years from now, when you’re talking about coach Jim Morsovillo, what’s the first thing that will come to mind?
That he’s a great coach. He knows a lot about the game. If there’s one person I’d take advice from, it’s him first.
You’re on a deserted island. You could have an endless supply of one food. What would it be?
Pizza puffs.
What’s the best thing about being a baseball player at Sandburg?
There’s 4,000 kids in the school and people look up to you and expect you to win a state title. Everybody loves sports.
With the exception of Marist, Sandburg doesn’t schedule private schools. Would you like to see that change?
Yes. It’s a great challenge to play those schools, especially ones in the Catholic League.
