High School Sports Roundup for Aug. 14, 2012

Oswego Invitational: A modified scoring format was used in the 12-team meet at Blackberry Oaks in Bristol, where points, rather than stroke total, were used to determine overall performance. Lincoln-Way East captured the team title with 143 points, 13 more than second-place Normal Community. Runner-up Tyler Kelly led Lincoln-Way East with 42 points. “I started out with a double-bogey, so I kept my head in it, and the second hole made a great birdie,” Kelly said. “It was a good round for me and an awesome start for the team. We can only get better.” Matt Stoner (37) was the other standout for Lincoln-Way East, tying for fourth. Plainfield Central’s Mitch Young was the medalist with 44 points.

St. Laurence Invitational: Marist (311) finished second and Providence (317) third in the 16-team meet at Mistwood in Romeoville. Marist’s Enzo Franke shot a 3-over 75 in finishing third. Providence’s Will McCabe and Marist’s John Yerkes also had 75s, with the former coming in fourth and the latter taking fifth. Medalist Michael Hultquist fired a 69 in guiding Loyola (296) to the team crown.
