NO. 2 MOUNT CARMEL (1-0)
vs. MORGAN PARK (1-0)

When: 7 p.m. Friday at Gately Stadium

Last week: Mount Carmel 32, St. Patrick 12; Morgan Park 47, Clemente 0

The breakdown: As long as the Caravan hangs on to the football and negates the Mustangs’ big-play potential, victory should follow. Mount Carmel will rely on running the ball and eating the clock, which will keep Morgan Park’s offense on the sidelines.

STAGG (1-0) at SANDBURG (1-0)

When: 7:15 p.m. Friday

Last week: Stagg 43, Hillcrest 14; Sandburg 30, Andrew 23

The breakdown: Stagg QB Adam Pilota made all the right reads against Hillcrest, running for three scores and passing for two. Sandburg’s “D” will present a greater challenge, however. Sandburg RB Lemonte Booker was a one-man wrecking crew against Andrew, totaling 247 yards and four scores. Stagg would be wise to load up the box against the run and force the Eagles to the air.

TINLEY PARK (1-0)
at RICH EAST (1-0)

When: 1 p.m. Saturday

Last week: Tinley Park 17, Stillman Valley 16; Rich East 34, Eisenhower 13

The breakdown: The Titans figure to rely heavily on RB Preston Thompson, who carried the ball 30 times for 220 yards in Week 1. Thompson is a load to bring down. Rich East will keep the ball on the ground, spreading the wealth among QB Malcolm Miller and RBs Jawaun Ward and Kenneth Naylor.

NO. 3 LINCOLN-WAY EAST (1-0) at MONTINI (1-0)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday,
highschoolcube.com

Last week: Lincoln-Way East 31, Carmel 6; Montini 40, Palatine 37 (OT)

The breakdown: The Griffins will let QB Tom Fuessel carry the load, hoping his legs can make things happen. He threw for one TD and ran for another in Week 1. The Griffins must show better discipline on defense and avoid getting whistled for bad penalties.

STEVENSON (1-0)
at NO. 9 H-F (1-0)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Last week: Stevenson 35, Lyons 28; H-F 35, Marian Catholic 7

The breakdown: H-F QB Ronald Johnson must take what the defense gives him and avoid forcing matters. RB Taje Smith scored three TDs against Marian Catholic — he’s a playmaker. TE Willie Ross is a major receiving threat as well. Stevenson operates under a spread offense, with QB Willie Bourban (13-of-25, 316 yards) and WR Matt Morrisey (5 catches, 145 yards, 2 TDs) the key components.

NO. 7 RICHARDS (1-0)
at MORRIS (1-0)

When: 7 p.m. Friday

Last week: Richards 26, Harlan 0; Morris 14, Minooka 6

The breakdown: Bulldogs QB Tommy Mister, who rushed for 102 yards and passed for 136 in Week 1, will need to carry much of the load again against a physical Morris “D.” But he’ll need help in the form of RB Ramontay Hill to keep Morris honest. Morris QB Zach Cimmanom tossed two TDs against Minooka. DE Danny Friend, an Indiana recruit, will demand major attention by the Bulldogs.

LINCOLN-WAY CENTRAL (1-0) at LINCOLN-WAY WEST (0-1)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Last week: Sycamore 19, Lincoln-Way West 13; Lincoln-Way Central 28, Lincoln-Way North 27 (OT)

The breakdown: West coach Dave Ernst faced a tough assignment for his debut as the Warriors fell at Sycamore. Central escaped North as the Knights defense stopped the 2-point conversion that could have won the game for North.
