Bremen 35, Perspectives/Leadership 14: Tyler Banovich scored on a 7-yard run and also threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Darious Tolbert in leading Bremen (2-0) at Stagg Stadium. Devonta Wilson added 160 yards rushing and a TD (6-yard run) for the Braves.
Thornwood 42, Rich South 28: Dante Briggs had 29 carries for 235 yards and four touchdowns to lift host Thornwood (1-1). Brendon Zachery threw for 262 yards and two scores for Rich South (0-2).
T.F. North 18, Thornridge 8: Davion Sylvester passed for 102 yards and two touchdowns in guiding visiting T.F. North (1-1). Thornridge fell to 0-2.
Boys Soccer
Providence 2, Marian Catholic 1: Ben Salvador scored the winning goal for host Providence (5-1). Brandon Picciolini added a goal and an assist for the Celtics.
Best of the West Tournament
Sandburg 0, Fremd 0: Adam Zehme (4 saves) recorded his third shutout for Sandburg (1-1-2) in the third-round match at Naperville Central.
Hinsdale Central Tournament
Lincoln-Way East 2, Hersey 1: Sean Sibley’s goal with four minutes remaining was the difference for Lincoln-Way East (2-0-3). Conor Hughes also scored for the Griffins.
Lemont Tournament
Lemont 2, Minooka 1: Goals by Adam Strube and Roy Delatore propelled Lemont (5-1-1) in the championship. Lincoln-Way West tied East Aurora 3-3 in the fifth-place match and Lockport finished eighth after losing 2-1 to Plainfield East.
Girls Volleyball
Champaign Centennial Tournament: Second-ranked Lockport (5-2) won its first four matches before falling to Champaign Centennial 25-19, 25-21 in the title round. Homewood-Flossmoor (9-4) finished fifth after beating Young 25-22, 25-17 for the Silver Division crown. Kassie Wallace contributed 94 assists for the Vikings, who went 4-1 on the day. Kaitlyn Shereyk led the team in kills with 34.
Joliet Central Tournament: T.F. South (7-2) defeated Bradley 21-25, 25-18, 25-21 to finish third in the 10-team meet. Abbe Mullen had 24 assists and six service points for the Rebels, while Crystal Lee contributed 16 service points, eight kills and six blocks. Kylie Bechely tacked on nine service points for T.F. South, which went 4-1 in the two-day event.
Springfield Lutheran Tournament: All-Tournament selection Amy Broadhurst had 23 kills on the day as Mount Assisi (7-6) captured fifth place by virtue of a 25-22, 25-13 decision over St. Charles (Mo.) Lutheran. MaryKate Deely added 52 digs and 21 kills for the Eagles.
Girls Tennis
Marian Catholic quadrangular: Giselle Beebe won at No. 1 singles and also teamed with Gaby Valedon for a victory at No. 1 doubles in leading Marian Catholic over Bremen 5-0 and Queen of Peace 3-0. Megan Melby also prevailed in singles and doubles for the Spartans in the rain-shortened meet.
Homewood-Flossmoor quadrangular: Singles player Faith Huckabee improved to 8-0 as Homewood-Flossmoor lost to Lyons 3-2 and beat Glenbard North 5-0. Final-round duals were wiped out by rain.
Lincoln-Way Central quadrangular: Lincoln-Way Central was the top team after beating Plainfield Central 4-1 and Rich East 5-0. The Knights also defeated Plainfield North 5-0 by forfeit.
Joliet Township co-op 6, Lincoln-Way West 1: Katie Kaczmarz won at No. 2 singles for host Lincoln-Way West.
Boys Cross Country
Lyons Invitational: Marist’s Kyle Hauser was second after completing the 3-mile race in 15 minutes, 16.75 seconds. Lincoln-Way Central’s Chris Kaminski (15:29.59) was fifth, while Brother Rice teammates James Durkin (15:30.76) and Pat Maguire (15:33.98) came in seventh and eighth, respectively. The top area squad was Sandburg, which totaled 71 points in placing third out of 10 teams. The Eagles were led by Pat Letz (15:38.18), who finished 10th. Marist (125) was fourth in the team standings.
T.F. South Invitational: Illiana Christian (28) won the 13-team meet as Nick Fiene (15:45) finished second individually. Tony Wondaal (15:57) added a fourth-place showing for the Vikings.
Hinsdale Central/Hinsdale South Invitational: Matt Anyiwo (16:14.20) finished 32nd in guiding Homewood-Flossmoor (406) to a 13th-place finish in the 16-team meet.
Girls Cross Country
T.F. South Invitational: Rich South’s DeAsia Garrett (19:30) won the 3-mile race ahead of runner-up Alexa Beezhold (19:32.11) of Illiana Christian. Illiana (40) captured first place in the 19-team meet. Lincoln-Way Central (68) was second, the Knights’ top runner being Alena Pacheco (19:50), who came in eighth.
Women’s Volleyball
St. Xavier/Trinity Christian Tournament: Oak Lawn graduate Kelly Knudsen had 27 kills and 18 digs as host St. Xavier (7-1) won both of its matches. The Cougars beat Siena Heights (Mich.) 25-27, 25-7, 25-20, 25-21 and St. Francis 25-23, 25-19, 25-20.
