For most wide receivers, five catches for 91 yards and a touchdown, plus two interceptions while playing safety, would make for a fine evening.
Laquon Treadwell is not most wide receivers.
One of the top unsigned seniors in the country was frustrated throughout much of Crete-Monee’s visit Friday to Marian Catholic, a game the Warriors won by a deceptively wide 30-7 margin.
A scoreless tie at the half was forged in part because Marian defensive backs John Hotchkiss and Justin Harris hounded Treadwell. Hotchkiss was in his shirt as Treadwell let two would-be touchdown throws glance off his hands in the South end zone, and Harris slapped a ball away from the 6-foot-4 receiver, the deflection hauled in for an interception by Hotchkiss.
Eventually, Treadwell took a screen pass 41 yards for Crete-Monee’s second score. The Warriors (2-0) went on top at the 6:31 mark of the third quarter when linebacker Nyles Morgan picked up a fumble and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown against Marian (0-2).
