Blake Waller, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound defensive back for Oak Forest football, also plays basketball. It will be an interesting week at the Waller household — it always is when Oak Forest plays Bremen.
Blake’s mom is a Bremen graduate and Blake’s dad along with older brother Zach are Oak Forest graduates.
So what will it be like at the dinner table this week?
There’s always a lot of smack talk. My mom has a place in her heart for Bremen. She’s a proud Bremen grad. She played softball and basketball at Bremen. But when it comes down to it, she cheers for me. But my uncles root for Bremen.
State title game. You’re in it. What team would you most like to play for the championship? Why?
Lemont. There’s some bad blood between us. But we respect them. They’re a good football program.
What’s in your iPod?
It depends on my mood, but country is my favorite. Some Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean.
If you could have your pick, what celebrity would you choose as your prom date?
Rihanna.
You’re on a deserted island. You could have an endless supply of one food. What would it be?
Pineapples.
Ten years from now, when you’re talking about coach Brian McDonough, what’s the first thing that will come to mind?
How he’s a great dancer — he can slide step — and that he’s a great man.
What are the goals this season?
Definitely win conference, win state and beat our rivals (such as) Bremen and Tinley Park.
You lost to Bremen and Tinley Park last season for the first time in more than a decade. How did that make you feel?
There’s a lot of motivation for when we play them this season, I’ll just say that.
As told to Pat Disabato
