Officials may look at teacher who edited sex book

A Rich Central High School guidance counselor, placed on paid leave for penning a racy sex book, likely awaits further punishment, but an English teacher at the school who edited the book and wrote its glowing foreword is still on the job.
Bryan Craig, 33, a faculty member since 2004, was suspended last week and resigned as the school’s varsity girls basketball coach after the SouthtownStar reported on a book he wrote, “It’s Her Fault,” which contains his controversial and often graphic views on women and sex.
On Tuesday, the Rich Township High School District 227 Board announced it would decide on Craig’s future at a Sept. 18 meeting after the district’s attorneys conduct an investigation. In the meantime, Craig is not allowed on district property.
District 227 officials said they might use the results of Craig’s investigation to discipline Rich Central language arts teacher Kylie Gregor, who edited the book and wrote in its foreword that she was “forever indebted to Bryan” for counseling her through a divorce.
“I had an advantage over so many women ‘out there’ trying to find, secure and sustain a relationship that works,” Gregor wrote. “I had Bryan Craig.”
District 227 school board president Betty Owens said Gregor’s role in the book is being investigated, declining to elaborate. Gregor did not respond to multiple messages left Wednesday.
In the foreword, Gregor wrote that Craig used the same words contained in his book to guide her, “time and time again through tears, frustration, kicking, screaming and a whole lot of confusion.
“It wasn’t until I really started listening to the words, though, instead of just hearing them, that I was actually able to get a hold of myself, realize what I want, what I deserve and what I am capable of achieving in relationships,” she wrote.
Craig and Gregor worked together with Rich Central’s student council, according to the Illinois High School Association website. School board member Sheila Friday has said Gregor also has a staff leadership role at the school.
Friday said the school board has taken no action regarding Gregor because, “the outcry is to address (Craig’s) situation. We’re dealing with him based on priority. He is of more urgency since he’s the author of this book.”
