Having played as a setter for most of her volleyball career, Lockport’s Katie Tabisz played out of position last season for the sake of the team as a middle.

For her senior campaign, though, Tabisz is back where she wants to be, sharing setting duties with Kayla Pfeiffer and giving the Porters one more offensive option.

That offensive depth was on display Thursday as No. 3 Lockport took out host Morris 25-16, 25-18.

“I was really excited to move back to setting, especially for my senior year,” Tabisz said. “I’ve played middle, outside and right side, and it was different for me, but I really enjoy setting.”

Tabisz (11 assists, 4 kills), Pfeiffer (10 assists, 4 kills), Aubrey Ficek (7 kills), Amanda MacNab (6 kills) and Katie Dugan (7 digs) led Lockport (6-2).

“Katie and Kayla are such good hitters that we need them both hitting and setting,” Lockport coach Erika Lange said. “We just have more offense that way.”

Katie Chatten had 13 assists and seven digs for Morris (5-3). Kendall Korte had five digs and four kills.

Lockport’s depth came into effect in both sets with waves of hitters attacking Morris’ defense. Two Tabisz kills, another from Pfeiffer and aces from Gabby Martinez and Tabisz helped the Porters pull away late in the first set as part of a quick 7-1 roll.

Morris struggled to counter in the second set, committing 13 errors overall, including a substitution violation late and a match-closing hit into the net.

“We’re right there and we’re fine, but we’ve got to get back to fundamentals,” Morris coach Jackie Litwiller said. “We weren’t connecting. It was either the pass to the set or the set to the hit. We could never quite get it, but it’s just fundamentals.”
