High School/Local College Sports Roundup for Sept. 11, 2012

Girls Volleyball

Lemont 25-25, Evergreen Park 16-9: Kelly Ferguson had seven kills and Megan Litoborski added 23 assists for visiting Lemont (8-3, 3-1) in the South Suburban crossover.

Rich Central 25-25, Rich East 13-21: Daivonya High dished out 10 assists for visiting Rich Central (3-4) in its Southland opener.

De La Salle 25-18-25, Mount Assisi 23-25-20: Kelly Magliano notched 12 kills for host Mount Assisi (7-10) in the GCAC crossover.

Hillcrest 25-23-25, Argo 17-25-21: Zaire Sherrill chalked up 12 service points and Destini Artis added 10 assists to lead visiting Hillcrest (6-3, 3-2) in the South Suburban crossover. Amy Kinney had 11 kills for Argo.

Illiana Christian 25-18-25, Fenton 15-25-12: Tina Massey and Jaime Petrarca (6 blocks) finished with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, for visiting Illiana Christian (6-9, 2-1) in the Metro Suburban.

Beecher 25-25, Grant Park 22-13: Savannah Soppet had seven kills, seven solo blocks and 11 digs to aid visiting Beecher (5-1, 2-0) in the River Valley.

Boys Soccer

Marian Catholic 2, St. Patrick 1: Keegan Oldenburg had a goal and an assist for host Marian Catholic (5-7-2, 1-1) in the East Suburban Catholic.

St. Laurence 3, Bolingbrook 2: Miguel Negrete scored twice for host St. Laurence (5-2-1).

Thornton Fractional co-op 4, Richards 0: Alex Gallegos netted two goals for host Thornton Fractional co-op (2-5, 1-2) in the South Suburban crossover.

Providence 2, Joliet West 2: Ben Salvador had both goals for visiting Providence (6-3-2).

Reavis 2, Tinley Park 1: Kamil Szczesniak contributed a goal and an assist for host Reavis (10-1, 3-0) in the South Suburban crossover.

Bloom 9, Kankakee 1: Jorge Garcia’s two goals and two assists lifted visiting Bloom (7-3, 3-0) in the Southland.

Crete-Monee 4, Rich South 0: Koran Spencer and Brenden Sanders were among the goal scorers for visiting Crete-Monee (7-3-1, 1-1) in the Southland.

Shepard 4, Oak Lawn 3: Erik Ziolkowski scored three times to guide host Shepard (6-7, 2-2) in the South Suburban Red.

Argo 4, Evergreen Park 0: Erik Martinez’s two goals keyed visiting Argo (6-3-1, 2-2) in the South Suburban Red.

Illinois Lutheran 2, Grant Park 1 (SO): Host Illinois Lutheran (9-3, 5-0) won the River Valley match by holding a 5-3 edge in the penalty-kick shootout. Justin Clayton scored in regulation for the Chargers, while Luke Egeler provided the deciding goal in the shootout.

Boys Golf

Brother Rice 167, St. Laurence 184: Tom Berzins shot a 41 to win medalist honors in the Catholic League dual at The Meadows.

Eisenhower 177, Oak Lawn 201: Eisenhower’s Vinny Curta (40) was the medalist in the South Suburban Red dual at The Meadows.

Evergreen Park 159, Reavis 175: Reavis’ Erick Ayala and Evergreen Park’s Ron O’Toole shared medalist accolades with rounds of 37 in the South Suburban Red meet at Stony Creek.

Lemont 159, Tinley Park 196: Matt Groebe, of Lemont, carded a 38 to capture medalist honors in the South Suburban Blue dual at Odyssey Country Club in Tinley Park.

Shepard 176, Richards 198: Shepard’s Colin Cody (41) was the medalist in the South Suburban Red dual at Gleneagles.

Lincoln-Way North 161, Andrew 192: Drew Korosic, of Lincoln-Way North, had the best round with a 39 in the SouthWest Suburban Red meet at Ravisloe.

Notre Dame triangular: Marist’s Dan Sheely posted a 38 to win medalist honors in the East Suburban Catholic meet. Notre Dame (165) was first, followed by Marist (170) and Marian Catholic (176) at Mission Hills in Northbrook.

Girls Golf

Lemont 172, Lisle 205: Lemont’s Nicole Fardig shot a 40 to win medalist honors at Woodbine.

Mount Assisi 198, St. Ignatius 201: Colleen Sullivan carded a team-best 47 for Mount Assisi in the GCAC meet at Cog Hill’s No. 3 Course.

Oak Forest 189, Andrew 219: Oak Forest’s Kelly McEathron (40) was the medalist at Silver Lake’s North Course.

Joliet Catholic triangular: Kelsey Bonnema (51) had the top score for Beecher (218), which finished third behind Joliet Catholic (187) and Joliet Township co-op (194) at Woodruff in Joliet.

Girls Tennis

Lemont 5, Oak Forest 0: Ilona LaRoche prevailed at top-seeded singles for visiting Lemont in the South Suburban Blue.

Tinley Park 4, T.F. North 1: Jourdan Collins (No. 2) won her singles match for visiting Tinley Park in the South Suburban Blue.

Nazareth 3, Providence 2: Hannah Davis and Lizzie Eggen prevailed at No. 3 doubles for host Providence in the East Suburban Catholic.

Boys Cross Country

Reavis quadrangular: Aaron Oldanie won the 3-mile race in 17 minutes, 12 seconds in guiding Lemont (27 points) over South Suburban foes Reavis (63), Tinley Park (66) and T.F. South (76).

Girls Cross Country

Reavis quadrangular: Lemont (16) won first place behind Claire Gagen, who completed the 3-mile course in 20:23. Reavis (47), T.F. South (85) and Tinley Park (120) also competed in the South Suburban meet.

Girls Swimming

Tinley Park 108, Argo 45: Hannah Schultz won the 100-yard freestyle (55.66 seconds) to pace host Tinley Park in the South Suburban crossover.

Loyola 102, Sandburg 83: Lauren Olson won the 100 breaststroke (1 minute, 11.72 seconds) for host Sandburg.

Shepard 99, Reavis 87: Shepard’s Joanna Rangel won the 100 butterfly (1:12.08) in the South Suburban Red dual in Palos Heights.

Lemont 109, Oak Lawn 60: Annette Lesnicki won the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.77) for host Lemont in the South Suburban crossover.

Stagg 101, Lockport 85: No times were provided for the SouthWest Suburban crossover. Among the winners for host Stagg was Alex McGurk in the 100 backstroke.

Women’s Volleyball

St. Xavier 25-25-25, Trinity International 12-18-22: Kayla Mullaney had nine kills and Desiree Aramburu distributed 24 assists to lead host St. Xavier (9-1, 2-0) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Meghan Falsey and Kelly Knudsen added eight kills apiece for the Cougars, who are off to the best start in the program’s 25-year history.
