No. 2 Mount Carmel 58, St. Joseph 0: Don Butkus (8-of-11, 166 yards) passed for three touchdowns and also scored on a 9-yard run to propel host Mount Carmel (4-0) in the Catholic League crossover.
Thornton 49, Lincoln-Way North 42: D’Anthony Cross caught a 39-yard touchdown pass with 16.3 seconds remaining to lift host Thornton (3-1, 2-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Wildcats quarterback JoWahn Brown completed 24 of 34 passes for 279 yards and five TDs. Lincoln-Way North (2-2, 1-1) was led by Julian Hylton, who ran for 176 yards and four scores. He also reached the end zone on a 90-yard kickoff return and a 40-yard reception.
Lockport 22, Joliet Central 14: Kegan Anspach (23 yards) and Edgar Ortiz (13) returned fumbles for touchdowns to spark visiting Lockport (1-3, 1-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Richie Guess tacked on a 6-yard scoring jaunt for the Porters.
Thornwood 34, Stagg 13: Patrick Bolton threw two scoring passes and Larry Moore returned an interception 85 yards for another touchdown to power host Thornwood (2-2, 1-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Stagg fell to 1-3, 0-2.
Bradley 34, Thornridge 6: Antonio Johnson caught an 11-yard touchdown pass for host Thornridge (0-4, 0-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.
Boys Soccer
Bremen 2, Andrew 0: Erik Avalos scored twice and Eric West notched his sixth shutout to lead host Bremen (6-3).
St. Laurence 6, Bishop McNamara 0: Hat tricks from Danny Buss and Alex Rodriguez keyed host St. Laurence (7-2-1, 2-0) in the Catholic League White.
Lincoln-Way Invitational
St. Ignatius 2, Sandburg 0: A.J. Swarm’s two goals dropped Sandburg (6-3-2) in the championship at Lincoln-Way North.
Marist 1, Reavis 0: Brandon Rizzo’s goal with 1 minute, 32 seconds remaining lifted Marist (8-4-1) in the third-place match at Lincoln-Way East. Jimmy Kruse made five saves in recording his seventh shutout. Reavis is 10-3.
Lincoln-Way West 2, Lincoln-Way Central 1: Ian McGrath scored twice to pace Lincoln-Way West (5-3-2). Nick Kowalkowski had the goal for Lincoln-Way Central.
Lincoln-Way East 2, Plainfield South 2: Jim Ralph scored both goals for Lincoln-Way East (4-2-4).
Bloom 5, Providence 1: Jorge Garcia contributed two goals and an assist for Bloom (9-3).
Shepard 1, Joliet West 1: Will Somerfield had the goal for Shepard (6-8-1).
Girls Volleyball
Wheaton-Warrenville South Tournament: Top-ranked Marist (6-3) lost to Benet 25-20, 25-16 in the championship. Mallory Salis had 23 kills and Taylor Holder added 28 assists over three matches for the RedHawks. Carolyn Yerkes chipped in 25 digs for Marist. No. 5 Sandburg (6-3) finished third after losing to Hinsdale South 25-19, 12-25, 26-24. Megan Litoborski provided 26 assists for Lemont (12-5), which beat Napervile North 25-19, 25-16 for seventh place.
Maine East Tournament: Jill Conrad totaled 63 assists and 40 kills over the weekend as No. 7 Stagg (12-2) topped Maine South 25-20, 22-25, 25-22 to win the 16-team invitational. Alexa Janus (64 assists), Morgan Thomas (36 service points, 54 digs) and Lexi Mantas (47 kills) also starred for the Chargers, who won all five of their matches. Oak Forest (9-8) closed with a 29-31, 25-17, 25-17 loss to Niles West. Kate Zicus paced the Bengals with 76 assists in addition to providing 23 kills. Kathy Flanagan (38 kills) and Cassidy Staunton (56 digs, 25 kills) aided the cause for Oak Forest, which went 3-2 in tournament play.
Oak Lawn Tournament: No. 8 Providence defeated Oak Lawn 25-23, 17-25, 25-19 in the championship of the 16-team event. Tournament MVP Alyssa Maloney had 37 kills and 17 blocks for the Celtics, who went 5-0 in the two-day event. Fellow All-Tournament honoree Krista Brakauskas added 69 assists for Providence (12-2). T.F. South beat Shepard 22-25, 25-12, 25-19 in the third-place match.
Hillcrest Tournament: T.F. North (5-8) won all four of its matches, the last a 25-9, 25-17 decision over Kankakee in the championship. Bianca Ruiz paced the Meteors with 47 assists on the day, while Devin Luster added 15 kills. Eisenhower beat Hillcrest 25-21, 25-19 for third place.
Boys Golf
St. Rita Invitational: Illiana Christian’s Matthew Zandstra was third and Marist’s Enzo Franke fourth after both carded 79s at Glenwoodie. Oak Park (331) won top honors ahead of runner-up Marist (343) and third-place occupant Illiana (346) in the 15-team meet. Marist’s John Yerkes (85) had a hole-in-one as part of an eighth-place finish.
Lincoln-Way East Invitational: The meet at Wedgewood in Joliet was played under modified Ryder Cup rules as the SouthWest Suburban Blue (16 points) beat the Suburban Prairie Conference (8). The top duo was Lincoln-Way East’s Matt Stoner and Tyler Kelly (66).
Girls Golf
Mount Assisi Invitational: Stagg’s Taylor Lambertsen (78) was the medalist at Cog Hill’s No. 1 Course. Maine West (378) won the team title, with Stagg (392) and Marist (405) following in the six-team tournament.
Girls Tennis
Sandburg Invitational: Molly Traverso and Marissa Garoufalis won the crown at top-seeded doubles as Sandburg (22 points) edged Latin (18) and Providence (16) for first place in the eight-team meet at Moraine Valley. Kanika Manchanda and Caroline Kruszecki added a title at No. 3 doubles for the Eagles. Other champions were Lincoln-Way North’s Jennifer Bechtold at No. 2 singles and the Providence duo of Jamie Noonan and Marybeth Galick at No. 2 doubles.
Lockport Invitational: Kelsey Forkin and Kat Samardzija (No. 1 doubles) were runners-up in Flight A for Lockport (24), which finished second behind St. Ignatius (34) in the eight-team tournament.
Shepard doubles quadrangular: Sisters Lisa and Lexi Chionis won three times at No. 1 doubles as Chicago Christian posted 6-0 victories over Shepard and Morton and a 4-2 victory opposite runner-up Stagg.
Plainfield South quadrangular: Katie Kaczmarz won twice in doubles and once in singles to lead Lincoln-Way West, which lost to West Chicago 4-3 and Plainfield South and Joliet Township co-op by identical scores of 5-2.
Boys Cross Country
Argo Invitational: Lincoln-Way Central (31 points) captured first place behind medalist Chris Kaminski, who completed the 2.9-mile course in 15 minutes, 11.9 seconds at Bull Frog Lake. Homewood-Flossmoor’s Matt Anyiwo (15:22.5) was fourth and Lincoln-Way Central’s Dru Rozewicki (15:25.7) came in fifth. Thornwood (94) was third in the 17-team event.
Minooka Flight Invitational: J.T. Orban (16:19 over 3 miles) was fourth in Flight 4 as Lockport (53) finished eighth in the 19-team meet at Channahon Community Park.
Peoria Notre Dame Invitational: Pat McMahon (14:51) finished ninth in the 3-mile contest in leading Sandburg (319) to a ninth-place showing among the 60 teams at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
Girls Cross Country
Argo Invitational: Mallory Johnson (18:45) won the 2.9-mile race in propelling Lincoln-Way Central (17) to victory in the 18-team meet at Bull Frog Lake. Fellow Knights Alena Pacheco (18:46) and J.J. Robinson (19:02) were second and third, respectively.
Minooka Flight Invitational: Lemont (54) was eighth in the 18-team field at Channahon Community Park. The Indians were led by Amanda Ruban (19:49), who was fifth in Flight 4.
Peoria Notre Dame Invitational: Carly Krull (17:00) finished fourth in the 3-mile contest as Sandburg (416) came in 14th out of 53 squads at Detweiller Park in Peoria. Marist (430) was 15th, the RedHawks led by Maggie O’Loughlin (17:46), who placed 19th.
Men’s Soccer
Spring Arbor (Mich.) 3, St. Xavier 2: Kyle Breitenbach and Ryan Butler had goals for host St. Xavier (3-3).
Women’s Soccer
Graceland (Iowa) 2, St. Xavier 1: Morgan Graves had a goal for host St. Xavier (4-2-1).
