Ryan Coghlan, a 6-foot, 205 pound senior linebacker for Sandburg football, has led a stellar defense that’s allowed 3 points in each of the past two games.

Coghlan and the Eagles host No. 3 Lincoln-Way East on Friday.

State title game. You’re in it. What team would you most like to beat for the championship? Why?

Lincoln-Way East. They’ve always been a rival, and we’re hungry to beat them.

If you could be a pro athlete in any sport other than football, what sport would it be and why?

Baseball. I played it all my life until my freshman year to focus on football.

You’re stranded on a deserted island. You could have an endless supply of one food. What would it be?

Mashed potatoes. I eat them every day for dinner.

Given the chance, what person, dead or alive, would you most like to meet? Why?

Brian Cushing (Houston Texans linebacker). I was a big fan of his at USC. I wear No. 10 because of him.

If you could have your pick, what celebrity would be your prom date?

Kate Upton.

What’s in your iPod?

Rise Against, Blink-182 and some techno and rap.

What do you do better than anybody?

I think I worked harder than anyone during the offseason.

Ten years from now, when you’re talking about coach Dave Wierzal, what will first come to mind?

How he teaches you more than just football. He teaches you how to be a leader outside of football.

What do you like best about being a student-athlete at Sandburg?

How the school will have assembly’s and the football team gets praised around the school.

As told to Pat Disabato
