Lincoln-Way Central tops Lockport

With both teams entering the game with 1-3 records, Friday’s SouthWest Suburban Blue match-up between Lincoln-Way Central and Lockport became a battle for playoff eligible survival.

But Central running back Kyle Wayteck made sure the game was one-sided as he scored two touchdowns to propel the Knights to a 21-0 win and spoil host Lockport’s Homecoming.

“We started great, but went downhill,” Wayteck said of the Knights, who came in with three straight loses but are now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference. “Coach (Brett Hefner) said if we’re going to make the playoffs we have to want it, and we did.”

Wayteck, who finished with 24 carries for 154 yards, set the tone when he burst up the middle and scored a 37-yard touchdown just 1:30 into the game.

“I have to give a lot of props to my blockers up front,” he said. “I repaid them because they played hard for me.”

The Knights went ahead 14-0 when Joe Lyman plowed in for a 2-yard touchdown on a fourth-and-goal play with 1:12 left in the first half. Wayteck capped the scoring on a 5-yard TD run with 1:55 to play in the game.

Lockport (1-4, 1-2) saw quarterback Ryan Dalton go 6-of-14 passing for 95 yards. But he was sacked twice by Evan Panfil and intercepted three times as Brandon Egan, Tyler Hosman and Nick Bechtold had picks for the Knights.
