High School Sports Roundup for Sept. 24, 2012

Boys Golf

South Suburban Red Tournament: Eisenhower’s Nick Curta (82) was the medalist, finishing one stroke ahead of runner-up Lucas Christian, of Richards, at Cog Hill. Eisenhower’s Vinny Curta (85) was third, followed by Richards’ Jake Kendryna and Evergreen Park’s Ron O’Toole (87 each). Richards (357) captured the team crown by one shot over Evergreen Park. Eisenhower (365) came in third.

Illiana Christian 156, Chicago Christian 166: Brothers Matthew and Jonathan Zandstra tied for medalist with rounds of 1-over-par 37 in pacing Illiana Christian at Silver Lake’s North Course. Alek Svabek (39) had the top score for Chicago Christian.

Lincoln-Way North 163, Neuqua Valley 166: John Orowick, of Lincoln-Way North, led all individuals with a 38 at Ravisloe.

Beecher 169, Momence 219: Beecher’s Zach Aring registered a 40 to capture medalist honors at Cardinal Creek.

Girls Golf

Mount Assisi 217, Resurrection 225: Mount Assisi’s Jesse Batsakis (51) was the medalist in the GCAC dual at Cog Hill’s No. 1 Course.

Boys Soccer

Oak Forest 2, Thornton Fractional co-op 1: Goals by Brett Staehlin and Julian Raczka propelled host Oak Forest in the South Suburban Blue. Ray Kobus scored for Thornton Fractional co-op (3-9, 1-5).

Tinley Park 2, Beecher 0: Keaton Klaff and James Milsaps netted goals for host Tinley Park (8-5).

Evergreen Park 7, Rich Central 3: Omar Alvarez’s hat trick guided visiting Evergreen Park (9-5).

Sandburg 2, Stagg 1: Zach Biel and Alec Fountas provided goals for visiting Sandburg (9-3-3) in the SouthWest Suburban crossover. Dino Karas scored for Stagg (6-5-2).

Lincoln-Way West 3, Joliet West 0: Ryan Curry contributed a goal and two assists to spark host Lincoln-Way West (7-5-3) in the SouthWest Suburban crossover.

Girls Volleyball

Illinois Lutheran 25-25, Morgan Park Academy 19-15: Paige Seehausen totaled nine kills for host Illinois Lutheran.

Bremen 8-25-25, Rich Central 25-20-17: Maggie Hayes notched seven kills for visiting Bremen (7-10). Jasmin Thames had nine kills to lead Rich Central (6-10).

Girls Tennis

Sandburg 6, Bolingbrook 1: Aliya Abunaim won at No. 2 singles for host Sandburg in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Mother McAuley 5, Queen of Peace 0: Maggie Daniels posted a victory at top-seeded singles for host Mother McAuley in the GCAC.

Chicago Christian 4, Reavis 1: Lisa Chionis and Megan Wise won at No. 1 doubles to aid visiting Chicago Christian.

Hillcrest 3, Rich Central 2: Erica Johnson and Paris Jackson (No. 1 doubles) prevailed for visiting Hillcrest. Rich Central received singles wins from Saria Mosley (No. 1) and Zainab Yaya (No. 2).

Mount Assisi 4, Eisenhower 1: Mary Kate Feldner and Katie Kokaska won at top-seeded doubles for host Mount Assisi.
