Providence takes down Brother Rice 42-21

The price was right Friday night for Providence Catholic.
Brandon Price carried the ball 31 times for 172 yards and three touchdowns to guide No. 6 Providence to a 42-21 win over host Brother Rice in a Catholic League Blue tussle.
Price, a 5-foot-7, 177-pound junior, scored on runs of 1, 3 and 3 yards, spoiling Rice’s Homecoming.
“I love running the ball,” Price said. “The more I run the ball, the better I like it.”
With wide receiver Miles Boykin out with an ankle injury and playmaker Chad Weaver knocked out of the game in the second quarter with a sore shoulder, Price was forced to step up more than usual.
“Price did a great job,” Providence coach Mark Coglianese said. “He had to get some tough yards, but the offensive line did a great job.”
After Rice (3-3, 1-2) cut the lead to 28-21 early in the third quarter, the Celtics (5-1, 2-1) put the game away with two fourth quarter tallies.
One came on a 3-yard run by Price and the other on a 7-yard pass from Dominic Lagone (5-of-8, 35 yards) to Cameron Brach.
Providence led 28-7 at one point, scoring 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to break a 7-7 tie.
Price’s 3-yard run at 11:29 of the second made it 14-7 after the second of six Austin Regan point-after kicks.
Providence would hit for two quick strikes within 1:03.
Kevin Ward stepped in front of a Matt Page pass and returned it untouched 60 yards for a 21-7 lead with 2:38 left in the half. Ward had two picks on the night.
After a quick three-and-out by the Crusaders, the Celtics set up shop at midfield and needed one play to extend their lead to 28-7. Weaver took a hand-off and darted off the left side 50 yards for the score.
Rice cut into the lead just before the half when Page (25-of-52, 288 yards) connected with Chris Rozell on a 14-yard TD pass to trim the deficit to 28-14 after Brian Kane’s PAT kick with 14.2 ticks left in the opening half.
Rice closed within 28-21 on a gorgeous 42-yard TD pass from Page to Malik Moody.
Marcus Jones had a 70-yard run for Rice.
