Extra work pays off for T.F. South against Lemont

For the second straight week, overtime was T.F. South’s time, and the Rebels have taken over the South Suburban Blue lead.
Joe Young scored on a 3-yard run in the extra session and T.F. South held on for a 21-20 win over host Lemont.
“Coach (Tom Padjen) said we might need to go to overtime again,” Young said. “We ran extra sprints in practice and it paid off. This is the biggest win of my life. Our defense was so good. No, they were great.”
Lemont (5-1, 2-1), which had its 18-game Blue winning streak snapped, drew to within one on a 5-yard TD run by Mitch Balek (29 carries, 153 yards, 3 TDs), but Joe Hehir missed the extra point to seal the win for South (5-1, 4-0).
The Rebels led 7-0 at the half on the strength of a 27-yard TD run from Saleem Sanford (13 carries, 81 yards).
Peyton Padjen connected with Drakkar Frazier, who also had a big game at cornerback, for a 35-yard TD pass in the third quarter.
That was sandwiched between TD runs of 3 and 20 yards by Balek.
The Indians’ leading rusher Christos Giatras was out for disciplinary issues.
“This is going to take us one way or the other,” Lemont coach Eric Michaelsen said. “Hopefully we’ll dig down and work harder to improve.”
