Big plays had Evergreen Park quarterback Brandon White making some big plans after the Mustangs’ 35-28 South Suburban Red victory over host Oak Lawn on Friday.
“We need to get on a roll now so we can make the playoffs,” White said.
White (6-of-9, 127 yards) did his share, throwing to Michael Reuter for touchdowns of 57 and 10 yards. White also ran for a score, picking a bad snap off the turf and sprinting 31 yards.
The biggest play for the Mustangs (4-2, 2-2) was turned in by linebacker Da Qua Gatewood, who picked off an Oak Lawn pass at his own 10 and ran 90 yards for a touchdown in the closing seconds of the first half.
The PAT kick, one of five by Chris Nunez, gave Evergreen Park a 28-7 lead at the intermission.
T.J. Eames Jr. added a 6-yard TD for the Mustangs.
Oak Lawn (1-5, 1-3), which scored twice in the first three quarters on a 1-yard reception by Drew Everett and a 2-yard run by Ahmad Shatat, trailed 35-14 entering the fourth period. Quarterback Bob Olsen (28-of-45, 257 yards) made it interesting, throwing fourth-quarter TD passes of 38 and 2 yards to Nick Anderson.
