Football

Rich South 25, Rich Central 15: Brendon Zachery (18-of-32, 293 yards) passed for three touchdowns and also ran 4 yards for a score to lead host Rich South (3-3, 2-1) in the Southland. Zachery’s brother, Jaylen, finished with seven receptions for 128 yards, including a 10-yarder for a TD. Iyenoma Ogbomoh scored on a 30-yard fumble return for Rich Central (2-4, 0-2).

Sandburg 51, Joliet Central 6: Matt Helmich and Jim Hill each ran for two scores to lead visiting Sandburg (5-1, 3-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Sean Leland added 117 yards passing and a touchdown for the Eagles.

Eisenhower 36, Argo 6: Vince Colbert had 24 carries for 284 yards and five touchdowns to lead visiting Eisenhower (2-4, 2-1) in the South Suburban Red. Diamonte Mallory scored on a 66-yard reception for Argo (2-4, 0-4).

Stagg 37, Thornridge 28: Steve Kubiak passed for a touchdown and ran for another to spark visiting Stagg (2-4, 1-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Thornridge fell to 0-6, 0-4.

Morgan Park 16, Robeson 8: Morgan Park (3-3, 2-0) recorded the Public League Illini Prairie State victory at Gately Stadium

Solorio 36, Ag. Science 18: Ag. Science (3-3, 2-2) lost the Public League Inter-City 4 game at Stagg Stadium.

Boys Soccer

Argo 1, St. Laurence 0: Jonathan Marquez’s goal lifted visiting Argo (11-5-1). St. Laurence fell to 10-4-1.

Lincoln-Way Central 2, Lincoln-Way North 1: C.J. Zuraitis contributed a goal and an assist for host Lincoln-Way Central (8-6-1, 1-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Ben Stepusek scored for Lincoln-Way North (3-9-4, 1-1).

Lincoln-Way West 2, Bradley 1 (SO): Tony Prospero made three saves in the penalty-kick shootout for visiting Lincoln-Way West (9-5-3, 2-0). Adam Webb scored in regulation for the Warriors in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Marist 0, Carmel 0: Jimmy Kruse (8th shutout) made five saves for host Marist (11-4-3, 3-1-2) in the East Suburban Catholic.

Lincoln-Way East 2, Joliet West 0: Goals by Nick Jenig and Alan Hernandez propelled visiting Lincoln-Way East (9-2-5, 2-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Sean McGovern (5 saves) recorded his seventh shutout.

Augustinian Cup

Providence 4, St. Rita 0: Pat Zeniecki and Max Picard each contributed a goal and an assist for visiting Providence (8-7-3).

Gateway Classic

Pennsbury (Pa.) 3, Reavis 1: Danny Vallejo scored for Reavis (14-6) in St. Louis.

Girls Volleyball

Tinley Park Tournament: Oak Lawn (18-3) won all its matches in pool play, then defeated Illiana Christian 25-21, 25-12 in the championship. Illiana (14-14) produced a pair of All-Tournament selections in Kylie Van Roekel (21 kills, 19 blocks) and Rachel Herrera (34 digs). Bremen beat Tinley Park in the third-place match.

IMSA Tournament: Mount Assisi (11-14) finished sixth after losing to Joliet Central 25-23, 25-20. MaryKate Wetzel had 75 assists over four matches for the Eagles, who also received 36 digs from Jessica Jakubowski and 33 kills from Kelly Magliano.

De La Salle Tournament: T.F. North finished third after losing to Jones 25-19, 23-25, 25-12. Thornwood was seventh and Morgan Park Academy ninth.

Boys Golf

LaSalle-Peru Invitational: Medalist Bryant Bolden shot a 3-under-par 69 in guiding Lincoln-Way Central (296) to the Class 3A title and overall championship for the third consecutive year. Tony Kestel (74) added a ninth-place finish for the Knights, who topped runner-up Naperville Central by one stroke at Senica’s Oak Ridge in LaSalle.

Lemont Invitational: Lincoln-Way East (322) had three of the top five individuals in winning first place at Ruffled Feathers. Nazareth (324) was second, followed by Downers Grove South (335), Lemont (342) and Providence (347) in the 12-team field. The champion Griffins were led by Tyler Kelly, who was third with a 78. Matt Stoner (79) and Jake White (81) were fourth and fifth, respectively, for Lincoln-Way East. Nazareth’s Bob Lively (76) was the medalist.

Girls Golf

Rosary Invitational: Lemont (362) finished third behind Naperville North (354) and Glenbard West (356) in the 16-team meet. The Indians were led by Bridget Lynn (82), who was fourth at Fox Valley Golf Club in North Aurora.

Girls Tennis

Lockport Invitational: Hana Khatib and Haley Tisoncek (No. 3 doubles) won three of four matches as Lockport finished second to Edwardsville in the weekend tournament. Brit Kupiec added three wins in both singles and doubles for the Porters, who went 3-1 in duals.

Chicago Christian triangular: Raquel Hamstra and Megan Wise (No. 1) won twice in doubles as Chicago Christian topped Immaculate Conception and St. Edward by identical 5-0 scores in the Suburban Christian meet.

Lincoln-Way Central quadrangular: Mariah Sakellaris won twice at No. 2 singles for Lincoln-Way Central, which defeated Thornwood co-op 5-0 and Tinley Park 4-1. The Knights also lost 4-1 to Marist.

Boys Cross Country

Loyola Invitational: Beecher’s Grant Nykaza won the race at Montrose Beach in 15 minutes, 23 seconds. Brother Rice’s Matt Maguire (16:11) was 10th and Illiana Christian’s Tony Wondaal (16:25) 15th. Sandburg (112) had the best showing among area squads, placing 11th in the 32-team event.

Peoria Central Invitational: Pat McMahon (15:11.48) was 10th and teammate Pat Letz (15:14.16) came in 12th as Sandburg (148) finished second in the 52-team meet.

Niles West Invitational: Marian Catholic’s Camren Howard (17:05.19) was 10th and Oak Forest’s Peter Boyajian (17:18.01) 15th in the Red Division, which consisted of teams in Classes 1A and 2A. Oak Forest (184) was seventh and Marian (188) eighth among the 12 squads. Argo (527) was 16th out of 20 teams in the 3A White Division.

Girls Cross Country

Loyola Invitational: Illiana Christian (196) and Lemont (236) were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 34-team meet. Alexa Beezhold (19:17) paced Illiana by finishing seventh, while Lemont’s Claire Cagan (19:40) came in 16th.

Niles West Invitational: Queen of Peace’s Lauren Crotty (21:12.15) was 14th in the Red Division race. Oak Forest (130) led all area squads by placing fourth out of nine teams. The Bengals were led by Mallory Lampasona (21:27.21), who came in 16th. Argo (308) was 12th in the 20-team field in 3A. Jocelyn Camacho (20:43.97) finished 28th for the Argonauts.

Wheaton North Flight Invitational: Sandburg’s Carly Krull (16:33.3) led area runners by finishing second in Flight 1 – the meet’s top race. As a team, the Eagles (120) were 19th, one spot behind Lockport (118) and two places in back of Marist (117). Marist was paced by Julie Yaeger (18:06.8), who was ninth in Flight 2. Lockport’s Bianca Wiemeyer (18:16.4) placed ninth in Flight 3.

Girls Swimming

Sandburg Invitational: Kim Katner won the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 57.99 seconds) in helping Sandburg (213) finish third behind Fenwick (328.5) and Neuqua Valley (246.5) in the 11-team meet.
